AMAZING! IF...you love Kevin Smith movies....
I LOVE most Kevin Smith movies. and this is the Almost Perfect culmination of his entire paradigm. But if you thought Dogma, or Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back were too over the top, sacrilegious or what-not, I don't know WHY you're even looking at reviews for this. Honestly, go watch The Chosen or something. Leave us alone!

Kevin Smith has earned his auteur badge.
I'm not the biggest Kevin Smith fan in the world, nor have I seen all of his films. I also rarely write Amazon reviews. This one, however caught me completely off guard. I'm trying to distract myself from the stay at home thing we are all going through right now and I thought I would watch some mindless comedy. Apparently I was wrong. The second act monologue which he perfected in "Clerks 2" makes a recurrence in this film, it takes shape as he addresses the near-death experience. As with other writer/directors who have dealt with this before him (and of which he was clearly well informed), it seems that his core audience has yet to catch up to that place in their lives. It reminds me a lot of what John Patrick Shanley went through with "Joe Vs. The Volcano". While some of the other reviewers found the blatant regurgitation to pad the monologue distasteful, I found it to be endearing. The self-referential use of what I presume was the Ferris Bueller house (I haven't looked it up, but it's an obvious nod to Hughes' "She's Having A Baby") hasn't even remotely been done before in American cinema. Not only did I think it was brilliant, but by the time it was over I actually felt bad that I live down the street from the Improv and hadn't gotten around to attending one of his events. The cameos by Method Man, Redman, and Tommy Chong were all incredibly well placed and performed. The scenes at the fake Comic Con as shown by the unique point of view that Smith experiences watching his fans dress up like his characters was really the moment that the film revealed itself as something more than a simple remake, and reveals why the fourth wall is broken so frequently leading up to it. I almost wondered if there were elements of "Hellzapoppin" that were being referenced in the movie sneak preview scene. It's truly a great mix of styles, with a great message, well executed, and sincerely entertaining. Highly recommended.

It's the same stuff. You just grew up.
Make no mistake, this is what you laughed at 20 years ago. You just grew up and these characters didn't. In fact, that's what the whole movie is about. That becomes apparent after around the first 30 minutes when it starts actively mocking Jay and Silent Bob for being old has-beens who for some reason people still care about slightly. At first I was certain this was going to be a disaster, but it won me over. It opens with the classic, crude, and now highly outdated Jay and Silent Bob antics, and I thought "Oh man, they really aren't going to just reach into that tired bag of tricks, are they?" But then it shifts with a dramatic moment, and suddenly the film goes in a different direction. And I think the message is clear: Kevin Smith is ready to let go of this gimmick, and maybe it's time for some of his fans to do so as well.Likewise, the story is ostensibly about reboots and mediocrity, but in the end, it recognizes that for us old bastards the reboots might seem like total cringe and lack of originality, yet to a new generation, they might find value in them. And we don't need to fully understand why that it is, cause they're not necessarily making those films for us anymore. Maybe we should stop watching stuff meant for teens and 20-somethings and complaining it's not compelling to us when it was never meant to be.Jason Mewes is the star and doesn't settle into the roll until the second half. He's downright awkward in the beginning. I'm pretty sure he has false teeth and it both affects how he talks and there's some uncomfortable odd jaw movement and what looks like teeth grinding. He also has an incredibly raspy voice that sounds two decades older than he is. Kevin Smith, on the other hand, looks unrecognizable and strange due to his weight loss, but oddly, slightly younger than Mewes. Yeah, these guys are definitely near the end of their shelf life, if not even a bit past it.I can see how this film will be divisive. Some still want that old 90s clever, crude comedy. Others are over it and all but demanding that Kevin Smith mature as a writer/director, or just hang it up. I honestly can't think of how he could have satisfied both groups better than this effort. Regardless, I think it's a good film but hardly a great one. It is just Jay and Silent Bob, after all.

Watched this on prime didn’t even know it was made
So I was surfing through prime one night and stumbled upon this in the recently added to prime and said to myself didn’t even hear about this film, so when I was searching to add view askew to my bluray collection this was at the top of my list as well as “strike back” and “mallrats”, now I’ve just heard about clerks three might order it right away I don’t know, I already have most of the jay and silent bob universe already
