Four stars - but
Four stars but – – – my take on this product. The good: this hat is bomb proof. It is extremely well-made and will no doubt keep you warm in cold weather and it is comfortable to wear without overheating even if the weather is not so cold. It is tightly woven yet very breathable. It is 100% pure wool. I am sure it would keep you warm even when wet. It shipped quickly and was very nicely packaged. It even had a nice note enclosed. The not so good: this hat is one size. It is going to be great for a person with a small to medium size head. Apparently, my head is to big. I normally wear a size 7 ½ to 7 ¾. This hat as shown in the picture is rolled up twice from the bottom. I could barely get it over my head and it came down to the top of my ears. This hat, on me, was way too tight. Because of the construction of this hat it is not going to stretch to fit me over time. When unrolled once the hat comes down over my ears but is still extremely tight. When unrolled fully the hat is almost a full 12 inches long. It will easily cover my head all the way down the back of my neck which means it also covers my face down to my chin. Still tight.I saw one reviewer ask if the hat sticks up and a reply from another reviewer who said what does it matter if he keeps you warm. Well, it matters to me. I don’t like my hat to stickup and flap over like a circus clown. I want my hat to fit right down to the top of my head regardless of whether it is just folded to the top of my ears or unfolded all the way down my neck.Conclusion. For a person with a smallish head you can’t go wrong if you are looking to spend a lot of money on a product that will last a lifetime. For a person with a bigger head you are going to be disappointed with this product because of the fit. Would I buy this hat again - absolutely not. What I recommend this to a friend - if they didn’t wear a larger size hat absolutely.

Dachstein Woolwear is the Best
Great customer service from Sweater Chalet! My package came with Christmas stickers/cheerfully placed, and a very nice card from all the company employees.I contacted the seller because my head was a 7-1/8" (Tilley) and I had read the reviews from other customers. The seller sent me several pictures of their product to show me the sizing. It was great! Small companies mean great service.Always looking for the perfect winter cap.- I wanted wool and found this by accident on Amazon. Some might say it's expensive, but when you read the backstory (a few customers have mentioned Dachstein Woolwear history in their Reviews) you are helping to keep a tradition alive. Another reason to support this seller of Dachstein Woolwear from Austria.I ordered the marine blue--which is a 2-ply Dachstein wool. It's sufficient for my needs--I'm not planning on polar bearing in a tent in the Uintahs but if I did this hat would keep me toasty warm out.If you need the ultimate wool cap for this forecasted cold winter, I suggest you get the Dachstein Woolwear Austrian Boiled Wool Cap from Sweater Chalet.Update: I returned the blue cap for a Mele Grey one that was thicker. It was a little looser for my big noggin too. The wool is not scratchy. I believe this is boiled wool that is knitted into the hats. Very pleased with how warm it keeps my head when I'm out clearing off my driveway. Great product. Looking forward to purchasing other items made from Dachstein Woolwear that this seller sells.

Poor construction and cut and the cap is extremely long and very tight.
Very disappointed with this cap. It is a two piece construction so you always have this weird looking flat cone head no matter how you put the cap on. It is also huge. I’m not sure why but there is at least 6 extra inches of cap that is not needed at all, I can almost fold the brim up 3 times and then it won’t fit due to the thickness of the folds. It is also too tight of a fit around you head so it cannot be shrunk to fit. I should have immediately sent this back and I would defiantly not recommend buying it.

Perfect...if you have a conehead. It top is a long point. looks like a dunce cap.
I've seen some lazy cost cutting work done, but this hat amazes me for it's shoddy design. It is flat. I mean it is two pieces sown together instead of four. For those who don't know sowing, when you sow four pieces together for a hat like this it creates a dome out of triangles. Instead of 2 pieces of fabric sown together resulting in a naturally flat shape. The bottom of four triangles forms a circle at the bottom part, for your roundish head to go in. While the top part comes together in four corners to close at the top and cover your head. A dome. This is two pieces of fabric sown together which makes the hat lay flat as it naturally lays, with a pointed top. Sure the bottom is not sown together so you can still get your head in, but the combination of only 2 pieces instead of 4 leaves the hat unable to conform to the top of your head. The end result when you put the hat on is a mountain peak shape at the top of the hat. (See pics)I have never once seen a stocking cap done in only two pieces. Even cheap crappy ones use more than 2 pieces. Why? Because such a design would only fit a person with a pointed shaped head.Further, the sizing is terrible. Of course if it's too small the wool will stretch to fit my fat head. I'd even imagine with time it would stretch out permanently and not be so tight. But how long would that take? before the hat fits my head? Instead of squeezing my head into the hat?And this hat is too long. With the part that folds up where it is supposed to be this thing covers my nose when I pull it down on my head. Even when I pull it down the back of my neck as far as possible i cant see. Only if i fold it up almost twice as far, near the top of my head, can I see.The part that folds up is about twice as thick as the rest of the hat. So its like wearing a double thick head band over the hat itself. And while the warmth is perfect at the top of my head, the part that folds up increases the thickness and warmth by 3 times to the top of the fold. My ears are on fire. But the top of my head is fine. Why did they double the width of the fabric only on the part that folds up? Stupid.See pics for details. Also see the pick of the sink full of black wool that resulted from taking these few pictures and setting it down on the sink a time or two. This hat will be falling apart loosing wool that quick.
