one of the best books I own
I love this book . Had been looking for an English translation for years, and one that I also resonated with. The author and translators seems to grasp the true meaning and essence of the original sacred texts. I gain a lot of peace, healing, wisdom, and inspiration every time I read this. There are many other suktas and prayers included, which have a poetic quality to them. It's a truly beautiful book which I'm so happy and blessed to have in my life.

Fantastic, authoritative book. Correct mantras.
This is an excellent, authoritative book, with impeccable fidelity to the original Sanskrit source. If you are looking to recite the Chandi in Sanskrit, this book has all the shlokas in Devanagari. The only glaring omission (in my understanding) is the SidhhaKunjika Stotra. Otherwise, this book has everything — in truly, correct Sanskrit — no second guessing about variants of letters, phonemes or words. Highly recommended!

Excellent commentary and insights
The author's commentary reveals a deep insight into Vedantic and Tantric backgrounds of the Devimahatmya, elucidated many interesting insights while motivating a unity in these parallel traditions. Really exceeded my expectations!

It might be better to separate the two personas
The author is a scholar, and also a believer, or so it would seem. It might be better to separate the two personas. The philology is excellent, however.

A book for scholars and practitioners alike
Wonderful translation. Devadatta Kālī maintains a near scholarly objectivity in his presentation without losing his faith. The support for Shaktism comes through in a wonderful and educated way.

A joy to read.
Written from the heart as well as from the head "In Praise of the Goddess: The Devimahatmaya and Its Meaning" explicates the meaning of this great work in a a way that is useful for developing those very qualities that the Devimahatmaya illuminates. A practical work for those who want to reach the Goddess her-Self as well as being a scholarly treatise on the historical development of Her forms in India.
