can't be beat for the price. Very easy to maintain.
These are great axes. I was skeptical about the plastic being able to stand the abuse an axe takes. It has held up well now after several camping trips. The best part about this axe is how you can sharpen it. The axe has a very distinct edge profile and the beauty is you can use the edge as a guide with files and sharpening stones. Its really nice because you don't have to find the right angle like normal axe edges. Its similar to how you sharpen a scandi grind knife if you don't know what i am talking about watch a youtube video on scandi grind sharpening. It works the same way as this axe. I can get this thing so sharp it shaves arm hair just like a knife. You might be wondering why i would need an axe so sharp ? It makes doing fine work much easier with a sharp axe. Like carving notches in big logs or chopping out a rough profile fora wooden cup. Another nice thing is how much lighter the axe is. Its really nice with an axe sling i forget i am carrying it. Its still got enough weight to be effective and i do not notice much difference in performance from my high dollar gransfors bruks axe.

Great medium size chopper! Light weight. Great control. Tough design. Sharp from the factory. Great warranty.
Out last chopper was a traditional, slightly longer wood handle axe, the brand of which had long since worn away. I got tired of trying to find a comparable handle that wasn't made for kids and ordered this when I saw amazon had a lightning deal for it, as our 36" Fiskars splitter has held up very well. I'm starting to understand how Fiskars can justify a lifetime warranty on a product that takes the kind of abuse an axe is subjected to. The design is so simple, yet incredibly efficient, no doubt cheap to produce, but surprisingly strong. And they come from the factory much sharper than traditional axes. With some leather gloves to keep the plastic handle from slipping out of sweaty palms, the axe feels even more ergonomic to hold than our 36" Fiskars splitting axe, and expectedly lightweight. The 28 inch handle felt a bit short at first, but was quick to adapt to and affords fantastic control for smaller diameter cutting: logs that are too big for a hatchet or knife, but too small or dry for a maul or long-handled splitting axe. I can swing this thing all day without tiring. And this actually came from amazon with the protective plastic storage handle pictured, unlike the last Fiskars axe I ordered from Target's site that just came with a disposable blade-edge cover.

Razor sharp 3 years later! Best Axe ever
I started out with a hatchet from Fiskars (the x7) it is an amazing little axe but wasnt good for big logs or trees. I wanted something for backpacking trips in heavy winter in northern california. This axe was the perfect addition.Someone laughed at the hollow handle telling me it would break. I love the hollow handle, great for storing fire tinder or a fire starter rod. This Axe is no joke, its razor sharp even after 3 years of moderate use. Only chipped a tiny piece when i hit an embedded rock in a tree. Cut down a 16 inch diameter tree with this solely, in about 20-30 minutes was taking out 3-4 inch chunks with each swing. I tried other axe's of the same length that would just bounce off the tree no matter how sharp they were, or they got stuck in the wood making you bend the handle back and forth to get them out. not this axe. Has the perfect angle head for chopping at a tree. Comes right out of the wood when buried in it. Havent tried it as a splitting axe much but that wasn't its intent. Ive kept it sharp with a stone, holds a nice edge for a long time.Did a mention its super lightweight? i dont even notice it on my backpack other than when the handle hits my legs. The plastic carrying case/ blade protector is nice, it securely locks the axe head in place and gives you the perfect place to put a carabiner to your backpack.I could totally see myself with this axe 20 years from now lol Provided you dont lose it. it does blend well with he forest floor almost left it once.

This is one bad axe mother feller!
Got it for my son's 15th bday recently. We have a bunch of trees that need taking down and our Husky 3.5 lb universal axe is decent but heavy. I was a little worried about the short length but since he's just 15 and the reviews were compelling, I gave this Fiskars axe a shot.We were not disappointed. The short length takes some getting used to but it's a quick adjustment, physically. I have lingering lower back problems and still haven't suffered any pain due to the short length over a month later, and we use it at least 3 times a week for hours straight sometimes. It's super light due to the smaller head, shorter handle, and the handle's hollow design is brilliant. The occasional bad swing doesnt leave your entire body in shock like the Husky does. The hollow design dissipates the blow almost completely. The smaller axe head is perfect for precise cuts and the blade is thin enough to penetrate trunks deep. Also, the design and material provide a full proof joint where the head meets the handle. They pretty much become one with each other. Then you become one with it.Couple this with the ability to either save energy with each swing or put the same energy you would with a typical heavier axe into each swing of this lightweight sturdy guy, and you have the option of either felling a decent size tree without barely breaking a sweat, or rip it down in record time. This is one bad axe mother feller. Buy it.When they say cut 2 to 3 times deeper (if not more) and swing up to 3 to 4 times more per minute, it's not a lie. This little thing bites hard and makes quick easy work of any chopping job.
