MagLite is the best
The flashlight is solid as you would expect from a MagLite. The 3-D light is not too heavy and brighter than the 2-D light version so a good overall choice. It should last for many years. Flashlight arrived quickly and is an official Maglite product in its original packaging as shown in the product description.

Best flashlight ever made.
Best light you can ever buy. It's not light weight and doesn't float. It simply is the best quality metal bodies flashlight you can own. I own 4 personnaly and always have 2 in my Jeep 1 in my home and 1 in my trailer. When camping the ability to make the beam wide or small is a great feature.

Its well made but it wont hold up against a modern light
This is an old school light. It runs on d cells, the bulb is a dim incandescent, and its button placement isn't great for ease of use. My biggest issue with this is it doesn't drain the battery all that much before I feel it needs a new battery. It looks pretty dim when only 20% of the battery has been used, and for the rest of the batteries life it even less bright then what is on the package. With fresh batteries and a focused beam I could see it on the side of buildings a few hundred yards away. Very impressive! But this performance is not what you will get most of the time because of how quickly the performance degrades as the batteries are used.It is a tough light and I've dropped it on solid ground and had hardly any damage done to the finish of the flashlight. Another nice thing it has is a replacement bulb in the back of the light should one burn out. So credit to Mag light for that. I've had times when a particular battery I used would not work in the light for what ever reason but it seems fairly rare.I like the incandescent bulb in a nostalgic way, but if I was using it for inspecting a vehicle or doing work I would go for an led light that has a more consistent brightness over the life of a battery. The only upside is that if I ever get attacked, this will double as a baton.

Always love MAGLITEs!!
I love all MAGLITEs that I own. The 6D light is incredibly powerful. Perfect for an airport beacon. :-) Seriously, the adjustable focus allows for wide flood to tight spot with a range that allows you to see considerable distances with clarity at night. Would be perfect for neighborhood watches. The one and only complaint I have with MAGLITEs is the quality of the manufacturing of the bulbs. They last very long but the accuracy in which they are shaped and attached to the bulb's base during manufacturing is often poor. This results in uneven light distribution in the beam. The bulb in this particular 6D light (one of several that I have owned and currently own) was tilted in its base by a very visible amount. When the light is focused to spot, this seriously affects the ability of the MAGLITE to cast as much light at a distance because much of light is reflected by the MAGLITE's reflector off to angles that prevent it from contributing to the center of the beam. This affects its power and range of illumination. However, I happened to have spare bulbs and selected one that was manufactured more precisely, installed it in the MAGLITE, and the beam was perfect. So if you get one that shoots much of its light off to one side of the beam center, look for another bulb (there is a spare in the base of the flashlight) and swap out the bulb. In addition to bulbs that are tilted in their base (not the socket of the MAGLITE that receives the bulb, but the base of the bulb iteself), the size and shape of the nipple where the glass was formed can also cause issues with light distribution, though not as severe as bulbs that are attached to their bases incorrectly. This can often contribute to uneven light distribution in the beam. I have many MAGLITEs of all sizes, except C-cells, and this problem occurs relatively often in the D-cell lights, but not in all instances. I learned to keep some extra bulbs on hand not only for when one burns out (again, they last long) but also to replace a poorly-manufactured one in a new MAGLITE. I think that MAGLITE should work on the quality control of its bulbs (which may be manufactured by someone for MAGLITE).Regardless, the bulb issue, if you have one, is easily corrected be replacement of the bulb. I would still recommend MAGLITEs to anyone. They are tough, long lasting and powerful. Just don't let batteries sit too long in the light without changing them with fresh ones. If they leak, they fuse to the inside of the light and you won't get them out.
