Salt and Pepper Grinder Set - 9 Inches Tall Brushed Stainless Steel with Clear Acrylic Body - Adjustable Ceramic Grinding Mechanism

Really poor! There is a plastic bridge that crosses over the middle section and secures the square metal rod. Because the plastic (nylon?) is also square, as you turn the base, it turns the plastic bridge, which in turn, turns the square metal rod. This works...poorly because when salt (as in my case) is large enough to get into the ceramic disk, resists grinding, the plastic bridge breaks as shown in the photo below. My recommendation for the maker is to use a metal bridge and please don't make it some thin piece of metal. It should be approximately as thick as the plastic bridge and made of stainless steel or at least zinc plated, so that when a piece of salt resists, it's no problem. I'll leave the connection of the metal bridge to the plastic cup that spins in your capable hands.On 3/30/16, Lily from "TheZhiva" responded and said she was willing to replace them for free and that as of November of 2015, the grinder have been improved.

This product has major design flaws.First, I love that the grinder opening is on top so you don't get the pepper dust all over the counter. Second, the mill produces an even grind.However, this is a horribly-constructed peppermill! I cook a lot and have experience cooking in restaurants. I use peppermills a lot. The design flaws are as follows:1) It's made of two pieces, one of which is cheap plastic, that come together in the middle. If you apply pressure the wrong way or grind it a little too hard, it will break in the middle. I just can't use this mill the way I would a one-piece wooden or steel mill.2) Loading the mill is a pain. Because it opens in the middle you can't stand it while you fill it with peppercorns. You have to hold the mill with one hand and fill the peppercorns with the other - good luck with that. Hope you have a vaccuum cleaner with a hose.I purchased the mills on 8/24/15. It broke within a week. I returned it and received a replacement set on 9/17/15 - great customer service, thank you. I now had three mills. Then the second one broke within a month of use.See the pictures. I was seasoning salmon when it broke. Peppercorns went everywhere! I was able to rescue the salmon, but what if I was grinding it over as dish when it broke? The whole thing would be ruined.The company has great customer service. It is a great concept to have the opening on the top and the grind is perfect. But it's just poorly constructed, and you can't use them like you want to. You have to be very careful, holding it as vertically as possible while you grind. Otherwise, they will break.I'll spend extra and get a traditional one-piece steel or wooden peppermill.

I basically do not put out reviews, only if I am highly impressed or highly disappointed. I want others to benefit from my experience, hoping it will help them make a decision. It helps me to read reviews while I am looking for an item. So here is the review, I purchased this set in Sept 2015, didn't use much because I don't cook much... but the other day when I had a dinner party , I was using the pepper to add to my salad dressing and the thing broke and all the peppercorns fell into my dressing on floor and on the counter. It was a disaster. Needless to say I had stop every thing and clean up and throw out all the ingredients and start over (and I was pressed for time)....I was not happy. I bought this one, and it was higher than some, but due to the description of the product I purchased it. I will now have to purchase another entire set. I am very displeased to have to back up and by something when I only had it for 4 months. Good luck if you still decide to buy it.

Don't waste your money on this product - it is very cheaply made. We have had ours for barely a month and already one of them broke. One of the little plastic notches on the thin acrylic cylinder broke and therefore made our pepper mill useless. They call this a "no mess" grinder due to the fact that it grinds from the top, yet all the fine salt residue stays all over where it comes out, and it is not clean at all.I bought this product based on the good reviews that it had, but I was completely misled. Now I have to find a new grinder for my pepper. :-(UPDATE:Seller contacted me and offered to give me a refund since I was having issues with the grinders (breaking). I am pleased that they check the reviews and want to ensure that their customers like what they are getting. Good company!

These are a really nice size and good looking. The design is great because it doesn't leave a pile of pepper on your countertop. The original ones I received broke about two months after getting them. When I contacted The Zhiva (the seller) I was very happy to find out there was a lifetime guarantee. The seller said they had an improved version now and made it very easy for me to get a replacement set in just a few days at no cost. They gave me very personalized service through the whole process.I've been using the new set for several weeks now and they are working well. I am very happy with the product and the customer service. I highly recommend this product.

There are at least a couple significant design flaws.The first is the bottom caps on the grinders. They only require about a 10 degree turn to be opened and the entire black bottom is the opening. The most natural action for someone who has never used these is to grab the big black caps and rotate in an attempt to grind some pepper. You'll get pepper... a whole lot of pepper!Secondly, there is a shaft running between the grinder on the top of the device and a thin plastic brace/rod across the diameter of the stainless steel base. When adjusting the grind amount this increases or decreases pressure on the plastic brace. Within about 3-4 days someone in my house had overtightened the grinder and snapped it.Laslty, the quality was OK, but the plastic isn't great quality. Despite the base, it feels very cheap-plastic-y.Returning and will be purchasing the OXO grinders for a bit more.
