Great for learning to mermaid swim!
The shape of the fin doesn’t match most mermaid tails, but it’s a wonderful beginner fin for learning to mermaid swim. It was recommended to me and I was also told the linden fin shape (think standard mermaid tail) takes a bit more strength to control properly. Because this fin is made with soft edges it’s safe to use in swimming pools with other people nearby (though please still be respectful and try not to hit other people with it). Some other fins are stiffer with sharp edges and could hurt other people if they got hit with it. Think about your swimming environment when choosing the right fin for your needs, as well as your swimming level. This is a great fin for getting started. I wear mine with neoprene socks to avoid the possibility of blisters, plus my sock have grip bottoms so when I’m not wearing the fin and walking on wet tile I don’t have to worry so much about slipping.

Great and comfortable monofin
Love the soft material and foot pockets. People have said that you should size up when ordering this fin because Foil’s foot size chart was a bit off. As I looked at their chart, I saw that I was a small, but since people have recommended to size up, I did. I got a medium instead of a small and I would say a medium fits just right on me. I have no problems swimming in it, so maybe when you want to order this fin, I think it wouldn’t hurt sizing up. It doesn’t give be blisters at all. It is very comfortable to swim in, like I mean really comfortable. I absolutely love it. People also say that they had some tears by their foot pockets, I haven’t had that yet, since mine is a new fin but I’m sure with more use, that will happen. I also think the price is just right for this type of fin. Update 2022: so it has been 3 years since I got the Monofin and let me tell you how great it still performs! No tears, though a few “usage/stretchings are visible but still fits my feet All in all, great fin, and would definitely recommend buying it.

Size chart is unreliable for Women's 9
I tried both sizes Small and Med and I wear a woman's 9M. The sizes are very different and the small was crushing my foot because it was so narrow (about 3 1/4 wide X 9 1/4") and the M was bigger in the foot pocket so my foot wobbled the entire time I swam and I got cramped for trying to control that. I got foot pain just from trying on the Small. I have a slender 9M foot. Totally disappointed in FINIS even though I have many FINIS swim equip. products. This monofin size Small was recommended but that's a total fail and the M is a poor fit too. I also have a BodyGlove Linden which has a very large stiff blade and I found it to be comfortable and it has adjustable ankle straps. However for the blade was a little difficult to control and I don't know if the construction (2 materials) will hold up to work outs. I got some muscle cramps from it. I am a fairly strong swimmer and rarely get cramps. I wanted the the Finis Foil to build strength and I might try the med with booties but overall still disappointing.

Perfect for teaching Fly
I needed a monofin to teach my daughter butterfly for swim team. This was perfect. The sizing was right on. We got a small, and it fits both her and I (sizes 7.5 and 8.5 womens). It's too small on my son (size 9 mens), which we rather expected based on the sizing chart. They're about as comfortable as any fins I've worn through the years. Extended wear will get uncomfortable, but they work well and stay put for swimming some training and teaching laps.

Don't buy it
good design but the wrong material- this monofin is just too heavy and flexes badly against your ankles in the water. This makes your ankles hurt and KILLS transfer of power from your legs while giving you a nice cramp in the calves. A monofin should not make you slower than regular fins if it's designed right. FINIS makes another model called the Shooter which is mostly fiberglass, weighs half as much, and transfers power from your legs exceptionally well. Doing butterfly with the Shooter strapped on causes me to "shoot" out of the water.

size 6 shoe) and I (size 8 shoe) trade off using it in the pool and it provides good power with a dolphin kick
We bought this to feed my mermaid fixation I've had, oh, all my life. :) My son (10 years old, size 6 shoe) and I (size 8 shoe) trade off using it in the pool and it provides good power with a dolphin kick. Easy to slip on and off due to the large stretchy heel bands, the only trick to this is remembering that you can't walk in it. However, it's easy to sit on a step of the pool and put it on, then mermaid your way across the bottom of the pool at top speed. It also works to swim sideways and along the surface of the water, so you can get in a good workout. This is made of good quality materials and doesn't show any signs of wear despite frequent use.

Too narrow for my narrow feet.
First of all, I am female, and have narrow, US size 8.5 feet. I ordered the Small size monofin, choosing to go with the sizing chart rather than other reviews as my feet are so narrow. I made a mistake. I was able to put the monofin on, but it squeezed the bone on the outside edge of my foot where the rubber foot pocket is right next to the thicker outside edge of the monofin. I wanted to make it work, the length was perfect, but it was just too narrow. For anyone who doesn't have narrow feet, or who is at the upper end of the sizing chart, I'd recommend going a size larger. I've contacted the seller about exchanging the product and I'll update my review when I have been able to try out the Medium size monofin.

I love them!
I bought these last year in order to start trying to get ready to wear a mermaid costume. I love swimming with these! They are fast and fun to use. I had no problems with the size of the fins. They are well made, not flimsy or cheep. I enjoyed swimming with them so much I got a pair for a friend and we now use them in the pool together. Great exercise!

Way larger than my usual size of fins.

É morbido e piccolo e sta comodamente in valigia o nello zaino. Soddisfattissima

This fin was recommended to me by Mike Maric, one of the foremost experts on monofins in the world and a trainer for some of Italy's top freedivers. He came to Canada to do a monofin workshop with our freediving club in the spring of 2013. Although everyone who participated in the seminar possessed a carbon or fibreglass monofin, we rarely used them. Instead we refined the freediving undulation technique with small fins, the more flexible the better. This is where the Finis Foil Monofin excels, though I did not buy one until after the seminar. As I practiced the exercises that he gave us after the workshop, I could see why he recommended it. The fin is very comfortable, so one can train with it for long periods of time, as opposed to custom made fibreglass/carbon fins, which are made to fit very tightly. Use of neoprene socks ( or half-socks), however, is recommended since the the opening where the toes come through tends to chafe. In my case, the strap at the back of the foot tends to slide off when I turn and push off the wall. The blade is made of the very same flexible rubber, so you don't move ahead in the pool unless your technique comes from the core of the body. This is a good thing. With a carbon monofin it is very easy to get by with bad technique, simply because it packs such force. A thrust from the knees that might work with my 4kg. monster of custom fibreglass fin, just doesn't go anywhere with the Finis Foil Monofin, and this ultimately improves my technique with the former. After I bought my Finis foil monofin, many of those whom I train with got one also, especially those in the advanced practice sessions. It is now integrated into our weekly practices. Paired with a frontal snorkel you can work on undulation laps at the surface and forget about time - makes for a great abdominal and lumbar workout. It is also very affordable, so someone who doesn't want to spend 300+ dollars on a custom monofin can get this one instead and acquire the proper technique first.
