to repack gas plug valve
I used it to repack the gas valve going to our fireplace. When closed, it had been leaking just enough to get a whiff of gas every so often in our den. Much easier to repack the valve than cut and rethread metal gas pipes to replace the valve. Worked great. No leaks now.

Dow 111 - good for many applications, and realize the product name / packaging has changed.
Dow Corning 111, now packaged and marketed as MolyKote 111, is a product with many uses. Whether you want to use it as lubricatant, or make sure that nut / bolt comes off easily the next time you access it, or even make sure your O-Rings stay lubricated and not dry out... this is a good solution. You can also use this on your air guns (if you have any) - anywhere there is metal to metal contact that you want to operate smoothly with as little friction as possible to prevent wear.My most recent use was to lubricate the rubber / silicone seals and other moving parts on my manual lever espresso machine. I also put it on the nut and bolt combinations in the machine to make them come apart more readily; this will make sure they don't "freeze up". Note this is also "Food Grade" so using it on kitchen appliances to keep them lubed up is also possible.I also use this on the valve stems / caps on my bike tires which have a tendency to freeze up and lock on. This keeps the stem moist, and makes the cap come off with a simple turn.Realize this product used to be packaged / sold as Dow Corning 111, and came in a dark green tube. Now, Dow has changed the name and markets and sells this as Molykote 111 with different color packaging. It is the same product - they used to sell MolyKote 111 to the European market, and Dow 111 to the US market - but they were always essentially the same product. Thanks for reading...UPDATE Jan 2016: The uses for this product seem to grow by the day. I bought one of these tubes thinking I had a "lifetime" supply, but the tube is half gone at this point. Recently, I did a brake job on my Chevy Suburban and Silverado, and the brake caliper pins require silicone grease for lube - turns out Molykote 111 is ideal for this application, and even recommended.Next, I changed the rubber suspension bushings from rubber to polyurethane on three of my vehicles, and changed out the stabilizer links for rubber to poly bushings also. When changing over to poly bushings, if you put them in dry, them metal to poly contact will "squeak, squeak" inevitably.... so the recommendation is to grease the contact points. Many of the auto shops use standard grease to do this, the problem is standard grease dries up over time and becomes hardened in this application - this is where Molykote 111 comes in. It is perfect of lubing up the poly bushings and giving the metal to poly contact points a nice, slick and lubricated surface....Just a couple more uses for Molykote 111...

Best lube for my espresso machine
Excellent stuff. Just a tiny drop is enough to keep my cams and lever nice and lubricated. Food safe, heat tolerant, and nice and slippery. Works well for ball-and-socket joints, too, like steam wands, etc. if they get old and sticky.

O-Rings, yes; silicone, well maybe.
This product is surprisingly dense and sticky compared to my experience with silicone grease. It is probably well-suited as an O-ring lubricant, but even better as a solution for heavy weight-bearing applications where the lubricant must remain in place for repetitive motion. I should point out that Dow Corning does not call their product silicone lubricant either on the tube or on the box, nor do they specifically use the word "silicone" in the ingredients. They call it "Dow Corning Compound 111 Valve Lubricant and Sealant."
