Empire of the Undead

Melodic and bombastic, but also provocative and thoughtful
I enjoyed every track on this album except, strangely, the title track (Empire of the Undead). Thematically, it fits, but while Gamma Ray is usually really good at incorporating interesting lyrical and musical effects - it just didn't work for me in that song. Everything else, though, was decidedly above average. Not only was it powerfully melodic and bombastic, it was also provocative and thoughtful. I might be reading too much into it, but I think it deserves its 5 stars (and it has become my favorite Gamma Ray album so far). Good job, guys!

Power Metal Rules
Empire of the Undead continues the power metal vein of Gamma Ray. The overall album is a mixture of metal and hard rock songs fairly catchy to most metal listeners. A great release of metal in 2014.

I was looking for some new/old metal to check out that I had not heard yet and was googling best metal albums of 2014 and of all
I will start by saying that I had heard of Gamma Ray, but never fully gave them a listen. I was looking for some new/old metal to check out that I had not heard yet and was googling best metal albums of 2014 and of all time when I cam e across this listed twice. Knowing that I had always wanted to check out Gamma Ray, I went ahead and ordered their newest release 'Empire of the Undead'..I really wasn't expecting much, as my tastes are pretty set with the power/thrash Iced Earth style of metal. Boy was I wrong! I got what is perhaps one of my top ten metal albums of all time. The first song 'Avalon' is an instant epic along the lines of 'Rime of the Ancient Mariner.' Just a song I cannot get enough of with its fantastic melody, lyrics and temp changes. It also has great vocals and riffs, both in a heavy and melodic way.Instantly one of my favorite songs of all time and I am extremely picky. The rest of the album is awesome, there are no weak links. The only problem is I always want to keep playing 'Avalon' over and over.If you are even looking at this, buy the album. There is no way you will be disappointed, it is a metal classic.

This cd is more heavy & in my opinion the best they put out so far. This is the direction I think they should stay on track!

This is a good Gamma Ray CD
This is a good Gamma Ray CD, with one exception I got the Japanese version with the bonus track Someday, which is not good and I personally think should have been left off of the CD, so it requires the skip button.
