Product Description 2013 album from the Psych-Rock band. Since their eponymous debut in 2010, Secret Colours moved swiftly from the neophyte in the Chicago Psychedelic-Newgaze scene to crusader over the course of unforgettable performances at Austin Psych Fest and Levitation Fest in 2012. Appearances with the Ravonettes, Night Beats, Ringo Deathstarr, and the Warlocks (to name a few) have kept them busy while they've been hard at work on Peach recorded by Modest Mouse knob-twiddler, Brian Deck. Review Secret Colours proudly identify themselves as "the bastard seed of '60s psychedelia and '90s Britpop bloodlines" on their Facebook page, and at the very least we can say this about the Chicago foursome: They know who they are. Blackbird (Only One),; a shambling Technicolor groove off the self-assured outfit's upcoming sophomore album, Peach (out May 28), morphs into a feedback-drenched bliss-out that sounds like it could have come straight out of Manchester. --spin.comWe totally dug the last release we heard from the folks in the Chicago, Illinois-based band Secret Colours. And the good news is...that we're just as impressed with Peach. This band has a dreamy slightly drony semi-psychedelic sound reminiscent of early recordings by The Charlatans UK. The vocals are subtle and subdued...the rhythms mainly mid-tempo and constant...the keyboards are dreamy...and the guitars have a cool heady sound. Peach is a mainly mellow experience...but the songs are by no means wimpy or meek. Secret Colours tunes absolutely command body movement...and the overall vibe that this band creates is immediately warm and appealing. The more we hear from these folks...the more impressed we are. Thirteen intoxicating tracks here including;Blackbird (Only One),;Freak;Who You Gonna Run To,; ;Me; and ;Love Like A Fool.; Highly recommended... TOP PICK. --babysue.comWhile it hasn t been as extensively covered in the press to the same extent as other pop trends, classically-minded psychedelic rock has been having something of a moment these days. Austin s Black Angels, who recently released their fourth album, Indigo Meadow, have turned an acid-drenched aesthetic and some prime placement on the summer festival circuit into one of the more devoted cults in rock music, while stalwart group Spiritualized just last year released one of its best albums. (But to be fair, pretty much all of the albums they released qualify for that designation.) Chicago s Secret Colours are a young band from Chicago with a new record, Peach (coming out May 28), that should push them to the front line of this burgeoning psych revival. Their roots are heavy in the first wave of British psychedelia, with an emphasis on the works of the Beatles, Pink Floyd, and Brian Jones-era Stones, with a newly emphasized streak of influence another wave of guitar-slinging, drug-munching Brits who came around during the 90s and were filed under the term shoegaze. We re happy to share with you an exclusive first listen to the Peach cut Blackhole. It s got the melty Day-Glo feel of a Syd Barrett-era Pink Floyd song, embellished with piano, melodica, and a drum machine that s better suited to sinking into a bean bag chair than raving until dawn. 4.5 stars... great album, and even better live
Album: 4 stars; Live set: 5 starsI recently saw Secret Colours in concert (more on that later), and immediately afterwards decided to check out their most recent recording, which is this one (their second album)."Peach" (13 tracks; 54 min.) starts with "Blackbird (Only One)", which immediately reminds you of the psychedelic shoe-gaze rock from the 1960s. "Freak" and later on the title track are both more acoustic-oriented tunes, reminding me of early Pink Floyd. "Euphoric Collisions" is the most up-tempo track on here. "World Through My Window" is introspective, while "Legends of Love" is far heavier. "My Home Is In Your Soul" is another great track, and for me would've been the perfect album closer. Instead we get 3 more shorter tunes to round things out, but I must admit they don't capture my attention. But in the end it's a minor quibble, as this is simply a great album. As nice as it sounds on here, live it is yet so much better. I saw the band a few days ago at the MidPoint Music Festival here in Cincinnati, where they played an evening set on the stage at Grammer's. They brought a fantastic 50 min. set, playing mostly from this album, but also a tongue-in-cheek cover of Nancy Sinatra's "These Boots Are Made For Walking", and it all sounded fantastic. If you have a chance to see these guys live, do not miss them! Meanwhile, "Peach" is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Secret Colours ... Peach
Secret Colours stumbled out of the studio hazed and dazed ... well, at least that’s how I like to imagine it. But truth be told, the band lovingly painted themselves into a corner, where the only way to go was up and out, shimmering the Chicago skyline, and infusing a softly dramatic 60’s psychedelic polychromic vision that ebbs out across that same skyline, causing everything to take on a delightful softness around the edges, where lava-lamp liquid colours melt down the sides of buildings, morphing everything into an oozing bliss of satisfaction. The album is laced with 60’s British pop sensibilities, filled with smokey reverb, dancing drenched vocals that will harken both early Floyd [ah-la Meddle] and circa 1966 Marc Bolan ... and it’s all held together by a kaleidoscope of psych guitar splendor, along with some oddly familiar backwards sounds that will instantly draw to mind lost visions from The Beatles “Magical Mystery Tour,” creating a caravel atmosphere of easy to grab hooks, and subtle grooves from which you’ll never want to come home.Review by Jenell Kesler

psychedelic perfection
Been spinning this one all weekend. Secret Colours' first record was great, but this one might even be better. They've got the sound, but more importantly, they've got SONGS. If you like guitar-driven psych rock like Brian Jonestown, Primal Scream, and Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, just add this to your shopping cart - you won't be disappointed. Catch 'em live too.
