Chilling and thrilling
Wow. This is such a great Christmas thriller. I was getting bored and frustrated with the last couple of Christmas novels I read, so I decided to change it up with a thriller. I am so glad I did. This is one wild ride. There are so many twists. All the way up to the end. The suspense is intense. I mostly listened to the audio version, which was done so well that it added to the suspense. It is a bit gruesome and violent, so I had to switch off the audio when I was around my kids. I loved the gore and creepiness.I could not put this down. It kept me guessing with all of the unpredictable twists. It's very fast-paced and flows smoothly. The characters are well done. Taylor Adams wrote it so well that I felt like I was right there seeing, hearing, and smelling it all. It was intense.

Hmmm edge of your seat thriller
This was a fast paced thriller that kept me wondering who was going to survive and what was going to happen next, I did not see the ending coming and also a little confused by it but overall a decent read

Great suspense novel
Book condition: The book arrived new as ordered. There were no miss prints or damage to the book.Book review: This is the second book I’ve read by Taylor Adams and I am just as impressed as I was the first time around. This is one of those that I literally had to put down and take a break from because there was so much suspense and anticipation that I couldn’t handle it! Just when you think things are about to be settled, you notice that the number of pages you still have left in the book and know it can’t possibly be over quite yet. One thing Adams knows how to do is have you sitting on the edge of your seat waiting to see what the hell could possibly happen next. I did see two of the big reveals coming, but when it came to the actual action side of it I was never quite sure what to expect. Some of the more violent or slightly gruesome scenes were a little hard to get through because it was so easy to imagine it happening to you, but they weren’t so bloody and gory that you wanted to throw up. I did like that the author gave multiple point of views also because it made it easier to connect with the story and understand just how sick and twisted the villain was. There was quite a bit of sadness to this book as well on top of the action. I honestly couldn’t even imagine what I would do if I was Darby and trying to process what was happening at the rest stop and what was happening in her personal life all at the same time. I will say I was getting a little too angry and hype in some of the final chapters, but I was pleased by the end of it. If you enjoyed his book The Last Word, then I have no doubt you’ll enjoy this. Or if you are someone looking for a book full of action and suspense that’ll have you hooked, I would highly recommend this novel. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Strong plot, well thought out
Maybe a 3.5, it did keep me turning the page. For me, the ding is that this got to be a little bit McGyner-ish in a way, and Darby lucked out quite a bit, but that is also what keeps you intrigued and turning the page - how's she going to get out of this now? This book wasn't quite what I expected. I thought it would be more of a tense psychological "who is the perp" type book, based on the blurb. As it turns out, we (sort of) know from early on who is responsible (with a few slight twists.) It's more a matter of how does Darby save the girl and get out of this situation plot.Darby is a college student, on her way to see her Mom, who is dying from cancer. She is forced to stop at a rest stop up on a mountain when the weather becomes too bad for her to continue. At this stop, she finds several other travelers, but Darby is mainly interested in trying to get hold of her sister. She accidentally discovers a kidnapped little girl locked in a van, and is forced into action to try and save her.The plot was good, and well thought out, even though, as I said, the reveal is early on, there is an air of suspicion around all the characters, and you suspect there is more you don't know, but i wasn't able to put it all together until the end. Overall, the plot is believable in the sense that this could conceivably happen. People get trapped in snowstorms all the time, so they were forced into this situation. Darby was a good character, if not a bit overly mature for her age, but whatever, this book could never of happened had she been a typical teen. The only thing I really didn't like was what I stated earlier. Darby just happened to be a lot more clever than the average teen or adult. She was exceptionally clear-headed, and while her thinking was very logical, and I couldn't fault her for that, I just found it hard to believe she's be this clever in real life, under those circumstances. She also ran into a convenient bit of both good and bad luck that further escalated the situation. What teen girl goes on a dangerous road trip and leaves her charger when her phone is her lifeline to her mom? I know she was under duress, but she had some time before she left, and as important as phones are in general, especially to her situation - it was just a bit hard to believe. Didn't she have a car charger? A little too convenient, IMO, but I guess it could happen.Good book with lots of tension, and fast pace. Good for people who like stories about average Joe/Janes outsmarting the criminal.
