Artist Management for the Music Business

This book is awesome. I've read countless amounts of blogs and books about the music business. This is a great tool for both artists/bands and managers to understand a manager's role in the music business. I would definitely recommend this book for any independent artist ready to take their music career professionally.

I manage alt rock band Mindset X, and this book has come in handy so far with helping navigate some of the aspects of the music industry that I am not familiar with, since the industry is changing so readily. I am glad that it includes the things that other managers have done wrong, or right!

While this book offers a comprehensive view of managing big name artists and contracts of big labels etc as well as covering ground for people who are interested in having a career in managing an artists, it deals very little, if at all, with what smaller and up and coming bands and musicians can do in taking steps to either securing management deals, or managing themselves, which I think the majority of musicians are interested in. It starts as though you are an "A" list artist or you're managing an "A" list artist, which is a very very small and niche market, and doesn't apply to most working musicians and managers out there.

The book was in great condition and was delivered as promised. The book was bought to educate myself on the ends and outs of artist management.

I bought a used version, but I don't mind knowing that it belonged to a library before. As long as the book is not dirty or damaged, there's no reason not to, in my opinion... The book itself is super informative, well written and a good pick if you're looking for a starting point for anything concerning the music industry and artist management. Some things are not 100% up to date anymore, of course, with the evolvement of social media and music on demand, but most of it still counts today... Recommended

I had no experience in the music business, but a lot more in event arranging. As an expeience organizer, but an beginner in the music industri working with a young country and western band I have to say I am impressed. I have had a lot of use of this book although I live in Sweden and the book probably is written more for a native English speaking audience.. ;-)
