Adventure Girls!: Crafts and Activities for Curious, Creative, Courageous Girls (Adventure Crafts for Kids)

My daughter loves this book! It has helped her come up with creative things to do around the house that doesn’t involve electronics! She is very creative as it is, but this has helped broaden her creativity, and give her new ideas!

We had gotten this as a gift and I didn’t think too much of it. My then 4 year old who has always had trouble paying attention, was mesmerized by these activities. She’s 6 now and still loves using this book. So much so that it’s now something I always buy as a gift for others. The only improvement I would suggest is to make it gender neutral.

If you grow weary of the fairy tales and fashion focused books for young girls like I do, have I got a book for you!! It’s called Adventure Girls by Nicole Duggan and it’s awesome. I bought it on a whim for my size year old day the other day and it’s the best thing. They learn about outdoor skills, construction, science, crafts, gardening, bird watching, active play and so much more. In addition, it highlights women who have achieved incredible things who they likely have never heard of like, Margaret James Strickland Collins, whose love of insects as a child eventually lead her to becoming the first African American entomologist and the third Black female zoologist in the United States. Or Wilma Rudolph who was the first woman to win three gold medals in Track and Field events during one Olympics. I’d say best for ages 6-12

This book is a gift, but I browsed the activities and there is a real lack of images. A child will have to be able to follow the activity using mostly the written instructions. I love knots, and the step by step knot tying instructions did not match the step listed by the image, and it grouped 2 or 3 steps into one image. Bad idea to show both pieces of string in the same color. Makes it very tough to know if a string is passing over or under the other string. The ideas in the book are good, however, better illustrations could have added much to this book to give the kids a chance a better chance at success.

This book contains a bunch of opportunities to connect with your girl (or boy), but it is also easy enough to follow that they can do some of the things on their own. I was so thankful for this book last week as I spent the entire day in the kitchen preparing for Thanksgiving. My 7 year old boy and my 9 year old girl were telling me how bored they were all morning. Next thing I knew they had discovered the Adventure Girl book. All I had to do was point in the direction of different supplies and they were happily entertained making pinhole cameras, origami bookmarks (about 100 for every family member it seems), and a crown for the cat.

My 9 year old daughter asked for coloring books for Christmas, and I bought this on a whim to go with it because of the good reviews. When it arrived, I was a little surprised by the simplicity and was afraid she might not like it. But she has gushed over this book and thanked me for it multiple times! It has pages of simple and fun adventure projects. And the best part is, she can do them all herself with objects found around the house or in nature. She’s had the book a week, and she and the neighbor girl have already done several of the projects together. Anything that gets my introverted daughter out of the house is definitely a win!

I have a 5 year old daughter who is constantly asking me “what can I do!” I am a single mom who works from home, so I don’t always have the time to sit down and help her with every single craft. The crafts are easy enough for her to accomplish on her own (with minimal guidance from me) No major crafting equipment is required.

We LOVE this book!! Originally I purchased it as a gift, however when my 10 year old twins saw it they couldn’t put it down. I ended up ordering two more copies, one for us and one for another gift.Lots of great ideas and steps to facilitate creative activities completely OFFline. And MANY things your children can do on their own.

Loved this book...my grand niece will love it too.

Given as a present but had a quick flick through. Some great ideas! Now my 9 year old daughter would like one too! Slightly expensive for what it is though.
