Sturdy and well made
It seems every hardware store sells the same dryer vent. A plastic flapper plate for outside, and a flimsy metal tube press fit in the back. That tube is also easy to accidentally pull out. This unit for about the same money is made completely of steel, thick gauge, welded together. Much better to work with the flapper operates as expected. Easy to install, stick the tube through the wall and sink 4 screws.

Thin and light, but solid
When I bought my house some years ago, a manufactured home, I never noticed that there was no outside dryer vent. The dryer vented into the floor and I never thought about it. I never bothered to make sure it then routed outside. Why would I? Too many other repairs to deal with in this old house. I recently purchased a new washer and dryer and when I installed them is when I realized the dryer vented into the floor, but that was as far as it went. No wonder I get rabbits and other critters living under my house in the winter. It's warm under there. Time to do it right so I purchased this vent. There were lots of other styles available, but they all seemed to have plastic parts that over time would become brittle and crumble. This one, being all metal, will last the rest of my life. I cut a 4 ½ inch hole in the house skirting, put a bead of caulk around the back of the vent and stuck it in the hole. I came up with four little screws, (no screws come for the four holes in the edges of the vent), screwed them in then crawled under the house. This is an old house so it sits on dirt. (Now a days, they drop them on caliche.) Crawling through 3 inch deep dirt as fine as dust and old insulation (a shower smells like a good idea) I wormed my way through the maze of supports and metal straps a manufactured home always has and made it to the vent. I found the semi rigid vent tube hanging from the floor, worked it onto the vent and clamped it. It was a little difficult getting the 4 inch tube onto the 4 inch vent while working on my belly in near darkness brushing away the occasional brown recluse. It was all worth it though. Knowing that my new dryer is properly vented and that this metal vent is never going to rot away. No installation instructions come with the vent, but it’s pretty obvious what you need to do. Most people will just be replacing an existing vent and not cutting a new hole for a new installation like me. The vent is thin and light, but solid although if you're rough with it then the tube will bend out of shape. It does have that gravity flap on it so if you don’t have it installed level or tilted back slightly then the flap can hang open negating the feature of keeping critters out. I ran a test and the vent worked perfectly. I’ll never have to buy another one, but if I did then this would be my choice.

Nice vent. Replaced my plastic one.
Very well constructed vent. My original one was flimsy duct with plastic hood outside. Installer had bent the duct inside which was hard to fix and trying fix was tearing off the pipe part (it was that thin). Had to get that out finally. Found this on amazon.com. One con: The flap does not close all the way when dryer is not operating. I wish they had some weight to it. I plan to glue a small metal nut or something to the flap to add some weight.

Very good product. Can be made awesome with tiny magnets.
I'm not sure about the description. To clarify, this is a vent tube, shroud and a flap at the shrouded end that keeps critters and drafts out. There is nothing else. It seems to be made well and will probably last a very long time. The flap works with gravity and is very light. Outside wind or positive air pressure inside the house will cause it to open. On my application, the existing opening was not level, causing the flap to stay slightly open and flap in the breeze. Between that and the light nature of the flap, I decided to silicone two very small but powerful magnets to the outside/back of the flap. Now the flap closes flush and very tightly. The dryer blows with a strength that is no match for the magnets (this modidication is not recommended for range hood applications). Very happy with this item.

Well made, great value
I was going to give this minus one star because the seam on the rigid metal duct portion of the vent had a seam that was a bit jagged on the end and snagged on my plastic flex duct when I was hooking it up, but for the price, who cares. I covered over the jagged part of the seam with a piece of HVAC foil tape, cut off the ripped end of my plastic flex duct, and was able to connect with no issue. I was originally going to install a backdraft damper behind the to supplement the vent's metal flapper, but found that the flapper worked well enough with gravity that I'm returning the backdraft damper.

Looks and works great
Easily installed, looks great, and works well. It also does not seem to retain lint like the old plastic one keeping the dryer exhaust cleaner and less fire risk.

Nice vent...less expensive than the "big box" stores, and much better quality!
I am adding a deck to my house, and needed to move the vent for the dryer. The old one was in rough shape...one of those typical plastic ones that end up degrading in the sunlight and cracking. I couldn't find one made of sheet metal locally, so I was happy to find this one on Amazon. Being less expensive than the plastic ones as the home centers was a big plus as well! I did run this through a pressure treated board, so I made a sleeve out of some vinyl flashing I had to protect the metal from the acid in the pressure treated lumber. Very happy customer!

It's cheap, and it works.
It is cheap. And I did end up installing it over the home Depot one which was $20 and not $8. But the home Depot version had a wire screen to prevent critters from coming in and did have the foam piece around the lip so it would set better. However we have lots of stray cats in the area so not many small animals venture that close to the ground where my dryer vent is. The real issue I had with this vent was the part that extends was bent so it was not easy to put my vent hose on it. I would have installed the $20 that needed screw holes added had I known how much trouble that was going to be!

This is totally fine. It's not built out of bullet proof armor and that's totally OK. Build quality is very decent. If it were 4 inches longer it would have made life so much better by making me not struggle as hard to wrap the duct from the inside around it. But I've installed a few of these caps in my years of home ownership and this thing is the best by far. The venting section rotates around the duct piece which is indeed otherwise riveted to the external vent section. So if you end up turning it sideways while pushing it into the hole you made into your beloved house's wall, you can always adjust it to point the right way down.

Exactly as advertised. I saw some complaints that it is flimsy or the door did not close. It seemed to me it is made of typical gauge sheet metal used in ducting. The door stays closed for me. I like that it allows full air flow with no obstruction through a grate that will accumulate lint (this was part of a lint cleaning effort - the previous plastic vent seemed to clog easily and slow air flow, thereby exacerbating the problem). I had a bit of trouble connecting it to the existing duct since the it connects well inside the wall and it took some doing to get the two to join (neither were perfectly round). Good, simple design and well priced.

The weight/gauge of this metal duct is a bit on the light side but it solved my issue of t a duct with flap that won’t break down with sun exposure (my old plastic-mouthed one completely shattered to the touch one day). Might be worth adding a tiny neodymium magnet to help keep the flap closed when not running the dryer, so as not to invite rodents or other pests.
