A little complicated at first, had to workout the bugs, but all is well now.

I got the small name tag version, not the large wall sign. For a device that only costs 12 bucks, this little sign is quite impressive. The GUI software that you use to configure the signs' messages is a little confusing because it wasn't translated into English very well. It does get the job done, however. You just have to be patient with it. There are no instructions or tutorials. Well, there is a help file, but my PC couldn't open it because it wasn't a standard text file. You just have to try things and see what they do. For example, there is a button labeled "FALL." In my wildest dreams, I would never have guessed that it meant to disable a line of message text. You can program up to eight different lines of text with a total of 512 characters. The maximum per line is 512 characters, but in that case, there would be no more memory for the other lines. If you program more than one line, there is a little button on the back of the badge to cycle to the line you want to be shown. The characters can be standard alphanumerics, pre-made graphic characters, or graphics that you design yourself. Each line of text can even have different display modes or special effects such as blinking, Times Square-like scrolling, or a marquee. This is not the most amazing entertainment device I've ever purchased, but for the price, it packs in a lot of fun. I think it would be a cool basis for a PC status info case mod as well. I am looking for a way to control it in real time. As it is, text must be sent to it manually by the control software. I haven't found a way to directly control the display.

This name badge is certain to get people to look at it, no matter what you have it say. I was surprised to learn that you could darn near write an entire page of text if you wanted, and this little name tag would just keep on scrolling. It's only one color at a time, I got red, and I really like it, but I wish I had gotten one of the other colors. It looks like there's yellow, white, blue, and green as well. It's very, very lightweight, and it comes with two ways to attach it to your shirt. You can either put the magnet behind your shirt, and the metal on the back of the badge will stick that way, or there's a traditional stick pin. I was a teensy bit disappointed with the software that it came with, which is the reason I did not give 5 stars. It's bare bones as it could possibly be, very unfriendly UI. The unforgiveable part of the software is that it came on a tiny little mini-CD though, which you can only use with a computer with a CD/DVD drive that actually has the pop out tray. The DVD players in a lot of laptops that just let you slide the disc in, and it grabs it, will not work for this type of disc, and will possibly cause some damage and get stuck in there if you try. It looks like they burned the CD at home too, nothing written on just a generic mini-CD/R.

This sign would have been nice, but the program is TOTAL JUNK. Locked up my computer over and over. most of the wording in the program is in CHINESE!. The manual you get does not match the program. After a week of wasting my time on it, I called support and was told to just return it. The sign took weeks to arrive, then the days of frustration spent trying to make it work, they should have paid me. I bought an 8x40 programmable sign from another company first and love it, it worked perfectly, the program was easy AND in English, I wanted a bigger one, this sign is NOT the sign you want!!! I got both ends of the spectrum. Don't waste your time or money. I did return this sign.
