MSD 84661 Magnetic Pickup for all Billet Distributors

Installed in distributor of 60 9442 olds. Seems to be working as advertised.

I was shocked to find that the pickup and everything else in my distributor had become a giant ball of rust- but it was still working! I cleaned all the rust off the other components and gave the a shot of clear coat to help preserve them from rusting again too soon. I replaced this pickup and used a piece of card stock to set the gap while the silicone dried. The distributor works great now I also drilled two holes in the distributor cap per recommendations from MSD to help reduce the condenstaion in the distributor.

This is definitely the way to go. Eliminate the physical points and the adjustments. The electronic points never get out of adjustment.

After returning multiple problematic and otherwise trash replacement pickup coils in my duraspark distributor,I bought this one and figured if I couldn't make it work, I would just go HEI. With a bit of grinding of the "breaker plate" in the bottom of the distributor, and drilling out the rivets on the pickup plate, I mounted this pickup and placed the assembly back into the distributor. Checked my vacuum advance and whatnot to make sure the bolts didn't contact the breaker plate anywhere and cause the timing to stick. Clearanced a little more and turned the key. Fired RIGHT the eff up. Very much stronger spark than its ever had. (I'm using a gutted DS II ignition box with a GM igniter wired and mounted inside of it, and a factory mopar coil and bracket off a 5.2 or 5.9 magnum engine) Something of note, this has WAY stronger magnets than any of the 4 different parts store pickups I tried. As you move the pickups mounting plate around the stator, you can feel the magnetic fields pulling on each reluctor tooth. Good unit.

Solved my ignition problem! Easy to install

Installed nicely in to my MSD 8485 Billet distributor and worked perfectly.
