My friend loved it. Relatable.
I bought this for my friend whose son was recently diagnosed with type one. She was devastated and sad. She took this book with her to the pool to read and she said It brought tears to her eyes and made her laugh. She said she could really relate to the author and was happy that she got to read it.

Heavy stuff delivered in an easy to read way.
Easy and fun, like a light read. But addresses and informs me about the huge stresses I face and need to learn about. Felt like drinking a milkshake but was as nourishing as meat and veg.

The BEST book for parents and caretakers of a child with T1D
Coming home from the hospital after my son's diabetes diagnosis reminded me of the feeling I had bringing him home as a newborn -- that sense of leaving our safe, secure place where everyone knew what to do and being thrust into a new life where the road ahead looked really overwhelming and lonely. This book fell into my lap at just the right time. Stacey's relatable but informative writing style, her real-life anecdotes, and her emphasis on safety and happiness rather than perfection gave me the confidence boost I needed and, most importantly, the knowledge that I was not alone. Highly recommend to all caretakers of a child with T1D.

Relevant to all Type 1 families!
We had quite a few diabetes bloopers in our almost 12 years with Type 1. This book was a refreshing lesson to all parents, both new and veterans to the diabetes world, that it's OK to make mistakes and learn from them. I laughed through many of the chapters commiserating with her families experiences. I especially liked the consideration behind the "ask your doctor" section at the end of each chapter, which will be very handy for some of the newer families reading this book.Definite 5 stars for this well written, thoughtful look into our Type 1 diabetes day to day bloopers!

FABULOUS and funny, real world perspective for any T1D mom
Stacey..I just finished your fabulous book and had to look you up. My friend gifted your book tome when my son came home from the hospital after his T1D diagnosis. He was just diagnosed January of this year. Your book brought me such a sense of comfort and touched on so many of the feelings I was having and things we are just beginning to experience. Your book made me laugh, cry and have hope. As you know..diabetes never takes a day off so my emotions have been on a roller coaster this last month and your book has been a safe place for me to escape while educating myself on the real life experience of diabetes. Thank you for your honesty. Benny is a lucky young man to have you as a mom. The similarities in our stories at times made me laugh and feel "normal"....from the diagnosis...the love of camp..to the love of Marvel movies. I saw so much of my family in yours. I am in awe of the T1D support system and community you have built for yourself and Benny (we don't even know another child with T1D) and are just starting out and have so much to learn. Thank you for making it cool to not be perfect.

If you are a parent or know a parent of a child with Type1, this is a must read!
"Long-time broadcaster, blogger and diabetes mom Stacey Simms interviews prominent advocates, authors and speakers. Stacey asks hard questions of healthcare companies and tech developers and brings on 'everyday' people living with type 1," on her podcast, Diabetes Connections. (Quote is from her website). Now she's written a book about her experiences raising a child with Type1. Stacey is honest and real. She shows you the good and the bad. She is honest about the way diabetes gets in the way of living a "normal" life, but that you can handle it "normally."Her philosophy has been to raise her family in a way that is "not perfect, but safe and happy." The book is short-171 pages, but you get to experience her son's coming of age with type 1 diabetes and she lets you in on the joy and heartbreak along the way.I bought several copies to give to the parents I know who are raising kids with Type1 Diabetes.
