Educational and Beautiful!
The media could not be loaded. The crystals grew and though they’re not perfect, we love them! We grew the purple one in the container it came with and the other two in glasses- so they’re a little different, and the video is day one after taking them out, cleaning them, and drying them. My daughter doesn’t want me to pull of the ‘tree’ part at the top of the blue and green one. I placed them in a warm garage and let them grow for about 14-21 days. The light holder is very nice! It changes colors and is very cool! This was a great value for the money as it kept us busy checking on them every few days and was so educational for my 9 year old daughter. She asked so many questions- most of which I had to google lol, so educational for all involved. We grew a large glow in the dark one as well, and some other ones from other companies and these turned out the best.

Wonderful gift!
Our six-year-old grandson had fun watching the first crystal growing over the course of a month. Now he can enjoy two more before his illuminated garden is complete. This is an educational activity that is lots of fun, too!Since writing this review, my daughter informed me that the instructions say to boil a little over a cup of water so that you have 6.75 oz. to use, but it also said "fill to the line on the experiment cup"(which ends up being less than 6.75 oz). Therefore, the powder didn't fully dissolve and the crystal did not grow. So, with the second crystal, she filled the experiment cup a little past the line, using the full 6.75 ounces. That worked!

It does what it's suppose to do,but doesn't glow in the dark.
I like that it's bigger that the other little ones you can buy. But stinks because it doesn't glow in the dark. Make sure you put it in a deep enough bowl. My son's crystals started growing out of the bowl.plus it doesn't look like the crystal on the box it's just white.

Great Results!
Really fun science activity! My 7 year old (and I - requires help with boiling water) created these three crystals! The lighted base makes a cool night light too! Perfect for your little scientist or rock lover.

Awesome!
This is surprisingly specific on how you have to complete this project. It is worth it tho. My kids love it! I left mine sit for about 2 weeks or so in a closet we only used for storage so it was not touched at all for the 2 weeks and it remained dark and temperature controlled or neutral. The room doesn't have an air vent so the temperature remained the same at about 68-72 °. I followed the other guys review for stirring 30 seconds 1 direction to mix initially and switching directions every 30 seconds until it was mixed. I think tho mine turned out beautiful that mixing with the boiling water faster would've made it work even better. My water was boiling and cooled slightly before mixing because everything was in solo cups which I figured would melt so I moved to glass to mix then poured into solo cups once slightly cooled to prevent this. Maybe that messed mine up slightly because stability with everything throughout I'm told is key to larger crystals. I would definitely recommend. If you use solo cups please be aware of how fragile these are. Jist vibration from cutting thru the rim of my first one I broke a long crystal off. 😬 I very gently cut right thru the rim in multiple skinny sections then trimmed each section off halfway down the cup to prevent the plastic from tilting inwards because that broke off another small spike at the edge. I then cut down as close to the crystals edge in skinny strips all around to allow me to gently fold each piece out and under the cup which tore the bottom of the cup gently piece by piece to prevent breakage and allowed me to reach gently under the crystals base to lift it from the remaining solo cup. I tried to completely avoid touching any long/tall crystals to prevent breaking them. Also expect your hands to be stained from getting the crystals out if you don't wear gloves. 😆

Meh
Didn’t work right for me, I used a larger bowl and I can still see the seed rock. Not sure what happened.

Fun and educational but needs adults supervision.
My eight-year-old niece was excited to receive this gift. National Geographic is a reputable education company and this kit looks like it’ll be fun to watch the crystal’s grow. I will update after we have completed the kit together. I like that it also provides an educational experience with a brochure about how crystals are made. There are detailed directions which require adult supervision because it involves using boiled water and chemicals.
