Our son loves this book and we love reading it to him! We got the book when he was 15months. He started engaging with the pictures and pointing for us to tell him what something was. Now at 22months, he knows the names of all the characters, different flowers, animals, trees! He isn’t as interested in the books journal portion, but I foresee him getting into it as he gets older. The story is simple. The illustrations are beautiful. It feels like you are reading through a scientist’s field book. HIGHLY RECOMMEND! We just ordered another book by this author - Cycle City. Can’t wait to read it!

This book is jam packed full of things,to look at and learn from. I even found myself chuckling a few times.

My 2 year old wants to read this book as soon as she wakes up and multiple times throughout the day. The drawings are lovely and the book will grow well with her because of all the little wildlife labels.

Every child needs to play outside and explore. Great read!

Great book but I would say to buy for children five and up. Bought for my granddaughter who loves the outdoors but she is 3 1/2 and a little too wordy for her. However, the pics are good!

My two grandsons, ages 2 &3, love this book. I bought it to get ready for our vacation near Mt.. Rainier.. The story is minimal which allows us to talk about all the things that you can see on a hike. Having lived in Seattle for a number of years and introduced our children to the joys of hiking in the mountains, this book captures that experience wonderfully. There are pages from a character's sketch book at the end and I can imagine, in the future, having them color in the items they find on hikes.

We LOVE this book! We first checked it out from the library then had to buy it after renewing it multiple times. We love to hike and explore and this encourages just that. We love looking for the different plants labeled in the book and have had so many fun conversations brought on by what the kids have learned in this book. We love identifying nurse logs, different kinds of mushrooms, etc now. Highly recommend!

Cute book but it's really better for older kids who can read and go through the book themselves. It's difficult to read to a toddler (mines 3yo) as there's lots of side bars and notes and not a lot of actually plot/storyline

Lots of details to discuss from friendship to nature and mapping. Used as a teaching resource.

Beautiful book. My 3 year old son loves the adventure and learning about all the animals and plants in the forest. He's even packed his own bag for a Hike in the future.
