Compelling!
Informative, great background to current events. Ritter has shared his extensive knowledge through this valuable book. I am more able to judge and evaluate today's geopolitical issues relating to nuclear weapons. Kudos!

Now I am educated on the Ukraine from the fall of the Soviets to the shenanigans of today.
Gives an objective view of what we have brought upon the world and ourselves. A great read that is worth the time

Based on secondary sources only!
The author provides an interesting narrative from the American perspective based on secondary sources. In the notes after each chapter he only references other books. I have read many of those books too. They are seldom if ever based on primary documents. What does that imply for the content of this book ? No archival research whatsoever it seems to me. Not in American archives and most certainly not in Soviet or Russian archives. After so many decades under threat of nuclear weapons a better insight should have been possible to tell. Not all bad of course if you want some superficial stories.

Hugely researched vital topic for humanity
I'm a huge fan of Scott Ritter, particularly with his expert commentary about the war in Ukraine. While this book is monumentally researched and of vital historical importance to humanity, it lacks the narration of the author's personal experiences that I know he was a part of as a weapons inspector in Russia. This renders the book, though historically acute, somewhat dry and theoretical.
