Review ...Useful on multiple levels, the historical value of the Benton letters contained in Death, Disease, and Life at War significantly exceeds that of the average set of Civil War correspondence edited for publication. This expanded repackaged edition is well worth the attention of new and seasoned readers alike. (cwba.blogspot.com/2018/04/review-of-loperfido-ed-death-disease.html)...Loperfido has offered a valuable contribution to the ever-growing collection of edited volumes. Death, Disease, and Life at War includes helpful explanatory appendices by Meg Groeling and Dennis Rashbach that will certainly assist those unfamiliar with topics ranging from the U.S. Sanitary Commission to 19th-century amputation techniques.
