Does the job!
After being a Vonage customer now for over 10 years, it stands to reason that the hardware is outdated and not working too well. We've been having problems with 2nd line fax not working and no amount of rebooting would make a difference. Since we switched to Apple laptops and an Apple time machine / router, we didn't need another router included within the Vonage device so this seemed ideal. I called the folks at Vonage and asked them to activate the device which took about 5 minutes after the routine security verification and basically requires giving them the MAC ID number of the new device. After hanging up, I unplugged the old device and plugged in this one.... 2 > 3 minutes later after powering up.... all green lights and like magic, the phone and fax now work perfectly. I don't know if the newer software inside is better tuned to work with the busier Internet these days but it sure can't hurt.

Did not work out for us
We had some issues with the one we were sent. The one we got looked quite old; literally had dust on the plastic box and a very faded orange sticker on it. It would not set up with the code / Mac ID that came with it. Spent a lot of time on the phone with Vonage trying to get it work; the code / Mac ID didn't work in their system either. Anyway, come to find out when we called Vonage that they would just ship us one of these adapters for free? So I am not sure why people buy this or need it. We returned this one as defective per Vonage instructions and Vonage sent us a new one that worked for free. But, anyway, our experience with Magic Jack was better and the service is much cheaper so if I had to do it again, I would just order Magic Jack. This was just our one experience, but thought I would share.

There are better alternatives.
This device would probably be ok with a 1-line residential phone. But activating the 2nd line jack requires adding another phone number, though this is really more of a Vonage issue. We really needed 2-lines for our small business, but didn't want the hassle of a separate phone number (and the extra monthly expense). So we switched to a different VOIP provider (voiSip) who recommended a 2-line device called a Grandstream HT502. It was actually cheaper. But the cool thing is that voiSip doesn't care how many simultaneous devices you have connected, or how many lines those devices have. So if we ever need more lines, we can just buy a 4-line device and get 4-line phones. Or we can even grow into a full blown phone system.

So far, so good (product review, not Vonage review)
My problem with Vonage adapters/routers has been product lifespan, so only having this for a month, I cannot speak to that. However, the product so far was easy to set up, and appears to work quite well. I would possibly give it five stars if I was doing this review two to three years from now.One note for setup - use the instructions/website with the manual - do not try to "be smart" and go through your Vonage account - it is impossible to find through there. That will save you time trying to change your MAC address.

Works great in the US and abroad
We had good success using this in our home in the US and living abroad. Plug and play, small and effective if you have Vonage service.

WARNING: This device is no longer supported by Vonage, do *NOT* buy it!
I purchased this item because I had left my old vonage box at home, and arrived for a 5 week stay in Panama with no vonage device! Fortunately a friend was visiting me a week later, so I used my Amazon Prime account, had one shipped to his house, and then he brought this "new in box" device to Panama with him. After spending 4+ hours on chat support with vonage, and unable to get a dial tone, they informed me that they were no longer manufacturing this device, and it had been discontinued. The final confirmation that this device is unreliable is that we tested our vonage line with multiple phones, and validated that it was definitely this device that was faulty. The final nail in the coffin is that because we were in Panama for 5 weeks, we were outside of our 30 day return policy, so this was a complete was a money.Do yourself a favor and get your device directly from vonage. We made a huge mistake buying this device through Amazon. It's a shame that this company is just selling old stock to unsuspecting fools such as myself.

very bad service...
Hi, all though I oardered it through vonage's website. I am having problems with talking to someone that I can understand. Also, if you are not so knowledge (like I am on technical things) you better get help. I thought since I already had a modem through my cable company that I didn't need to get theirs well turns out that I do need to get their cable modem thingy. Plus I paid for overnight, they are shipping it to me in two days...plus I have to pay for the wrong one to be shipped back to them and not only that since I haven't been able to use it my free month well doesn't change since they know this...I ordered it on the 1st of feburary and know its the 7th and I lost 7 days already and another 2 days till I get the new device. This is stupid. Man make sure you also have no back ground noise like kids or tv or radio because you cannot understand them. sorry but just so you know. But on the other hand it does seem to be a good thing ....if it works ....when I get it .....
