We bought this chess set for our grandson as a Christmas present. of the many gifts he received this year from us and his parents this is the one he was most interested in. He and I have spent many hours playing chess and he is improving every day. I think a lot of what caught his interest was the build of the game and the quality of the board and the pieces. He takes his chess set to school with him everyday and during recess plays with several of his friends at school. The set looks as good today as one hand wrapped it on Christmas morning. We would definitely purchase this set again but I don't believe that will be happening for a while as it is listed many enjoyable hours of gameplay so far. I highly recommend this set for anybody who is interested in getting a chess set for a child.

We are very pleased with this set. The quality of the pieces and board is excellent for the money. We are using it both at home, and while we travel since the wooden pieces are protected in individual spaces in the bottom of the board, which folds up nicely to transport. Even though the board is hinged in the center, when playing it lies flat and there is no ridge or gap in the board. The detail on the board is nice also. Definitely think we got more than our money’s worth in purchasing this nice set & would highly recommend (in fact we already have and a friend has bought one for themselves!)

A very nice set for it's price range. Board is nicely finished, no blemishes found. Chess pieces are constructed of a nicely detailed light wood( not weighted), with a good finish. The entire case is also made of a light wood just a hair under 7/16 inches(13/32), or 10.32 mm's thick. The latch is of good construction being gold in color with a small spring loaded pressure ball to secure the latch in it's closed position. The chess pieces storage foam area is encased in a light black velvet cloth with the cutouts for the chess pieces securely holding them in place. The hinges are also covered with the same type cloth to prevent damaging any surface played upon. Very small seam visible when board is opened for play. Overall this is a nice light weight set to take to the park, or outside for a game.

I ordered this chess set for my adult daughter, who was visiting for the holidays. Her boyfriend is teaching her to play chess and I hadn't played since I was a child! I didn't want to spend a lot of money and this chess set was perfect. It's decent quality and the board sat flat. The pieces are well shaped and easy to slide on the board. I would recommend this set for anyone looking for a decent quality set for a great price.

My son is 6 years old and he wanted to play chess. I ordered this as it had some good reviews and also had storage for the coins. The quality of the board and coins are great. The only issue I felt was the felt on bottom of the coins come off when we insert or take out the coins but it was not a big deal as we were able to glue it again. He used to play around 2 to 3 times daily for the past month. The storage for the coins is great addition as it keeps the coins safe and also fun for kids to clean up after play.

This is a great chess set! Good looking enough to leave out as a high class decorative piece as well as enjoyable to play with. Nice size and weight, it is not cheap or flimsy. It has beautifully crafted figures, and board! The case is gorgeous and sturdy for storage and gifting. You would be proud to give this as a gift, although I bought it just for me. I love it!

If you're looking for a travel chess set or an easy to store chess set that isn't magnetized this is the set for you. The build quality is high for the price, the cloth joints prevent a gap in the middle of the board when unfolded. The piece insert that holds the pieces is snug and doesnt feel like cheap plastic. The latch us snug and really feels like it will keep your board closed and secure. Really I would suggest this as anyone's first chess set.

This was a gift for my father who likes to play chess. The set itself is okay and feels average quality, which I would be okay with if there wasn’t a huge warp in the board itself. Because of this, the board cannot fully close due to this warp. This was disappointing to find but the game is still useable.
