Works great but needs longer bolt
Foil works great ! I put it on a 19 1/2 ft i/o and cut the bowrise by 80% and now planes out in under half the time.Very stable in tight turns.Only negitive is that the foil needs a longer bolt included with the installation kit. In researching this unit a common complaint was that the unit would fall off after a short while. The factory trim tab bolt has 3/4 inch LESS tread engagement after installing the foil and spacer plate (the spacer plate is a GREAT addition to this install ).On this Mercruiser install I used 2 1/2 inch long 7/16 dia. common course tread bolt with internal hex head (uses an allen wrench ).You have to use the internal hex head because of the small bolt opening in the Mercruiser outdrive.Installs on other makes may be different.Use RED Locktite on dry and clean bolt and trimtab treads.Tighten securely and let Locktite "cure" overnight before using. Hope this info is helpful.

Best upgrade for the money you can make for the handling of your boat. Love what it does for my 19-5 Four Winns Sundowner, performs so much better and the foil only takes minutes to install. Don't count on the hardware caps to remain in the foil as they tend to pop out I'm sure when the foil is loaded and flexes. Very easy to fill void where the bolts are installed with some silicone to streamline the foil and prevent drag + will retain hardware if in the unlikely event of any of it coming loose. I recommend to all my friends and family -- awesome product and it looks cool!

On larger size Yamaha Outboards you will need to drill the cavitation Plate.
I dislike that fact that this model of Hydrofoil is listed as for used on larger size outboards and drill less. I had to drill my 2008 Yamaha F225-TXR cause the forward mounting holes were not spaced wide enough to use the provided bolts to pinch the Hydro Foil in place. My The cavitation plate was to wide.I haven’t done a sea trail yet to test the Hydra Foil, With the south swell we’ve had in Monterey Bay the last few years, I’m hoping installation of the Hydrofoil cuts down on the boat porpoising as it is the main reason I installed it, and one of the performance benefits this Hydrofoil is suppose to perform .

Makes it different. Better?
Came new w/o the bolt cover tabs. No biggie, can smooth over with silicone.Screw to pinch tight are too short.Flush is nice but they need to reach/thread.Kinda Doesn’t work as a complete no drill fit on an alpha 1, Gen 2.The cavitation plate is wide, so the hydrofoil slots where the pinch bolts go through don’t clear it.You can use the anode bolt and go really tight to keep foil from pivoting some but drilling the plate is more secure20’ cuddy 4.3lx w/ 14.5 19pProsGets on plane w/o the drama.Virtually no bow lift.Eliminates low slows wander/chine walkKeeps the boat flat, cuts through chop better in all conditions.Improves steering feedback and handling.Eliminates low speed plowing almost 100%Slows down, nows down more graduallyPlanes instantly. Beachside now never really rises. Even if trimmed up.ConsLessens range of trimBoat is nearly flat no matter trim position.Does/can see trim change but bow doesn’t rise as much.Trim changes doesn’t effect speed/rpm much at allAlmost too much bow down at wot.Lost at least 8mph top speed.Requires more rpm to reach same speeds as withoutMy 45mph boat that would get beat up in chop is now a 36mph boat that handles really well and uses more fuel.Personally I’d like something less aggressive, even if I have to drill holes.

Even more lift
We already had a hydrofoil on our engine, but my husband really wanted this one; guess he liked the sporty look of it. So we bought it and had a chance to use it one time this fall before cold weather set in. We are AMAZED at how well this lifts the boat out of the water. We are on plane in no time. When we slow down, the stern of the boat doesn't sink deeply into the water. We absolutely love this product; it outperforms the other unit that we had. I can't wait to see how well it pulls a skier. Plus, there is no cavitation in tight turns. This product is highly recommended and well worth the money.

Dangerous and Cheaply made
DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT. We had the “exact” same one for 10 years and had no issues. Needed to be replaced after someone decided to use it as a step. THIS IS NOT THE SAME PRODUCT. This product is incredibly cheaply made. The plastic is so malleable that at 30mph it bent back far enough to hit the prop. As you can see it generated enough pressure to bend the anode plate so much that it cracked. This product is dangerous do not buy it.

Improved Performance
This unit is very easy to install, and took only a few minutes. When taken to the water, I noticed a quicker up on plane, better performance, increase in speed, and tighter turning ability. Even with tight turns I never was able to get it to cavitate. I have used other brands and I highly recommend this unit.
