Candy Thermometer with Pot Clip Stay Cool Hanging Handle Professional Cooking Oil/Deep Fry Thermometer

First, this is a GREAT buy!It's a quality candy / deep-fry thermometer with lots of great features at a great priceSecond, the only thing that could be better, as with nearly all liquid-in-glass thermometers, is readabilityAs with nearly all liquid-in-glass thermometers, the liquid channel is narrow and harder to see from certain angles. However, this is the well-known digital vs analog comparison. Those who prioritize readability can opt for digital.Back to why this is great, especially for the price- Large, insulated handle stays cool, can safely and securely grab the thermometer from a hot pot- Steel frame protects glass, won't rust- Scale is easy to read, in both F and C, marked for candy stages and deep fry- Clip is adjustable, allowing the thermometer to slide up and down for shallower/deeper pots- Bottom stand-off keeps bulb in liquid and avoids direct contact with pan, for accuracy- It can even stand freely, much better to clip it, but the bottom allows it to stand on its own in a pinch- Package is durable, reusable plastic and protects the thermometerMy prior thermometer was an oversize glass tube with an adjustable clip on the glass vial. Real simple.The edge it had was that its liquid channel was extra-wide, which made it easy to read.But it was just a glass vial with a sliding metal clip, it went in the drawer with nothing to protect it.The only advantage was readability, but again, if that's the priority, digital is best anyway.This thermometer's glass is protected by a steel frame, and comes with a reusable package, so even if it jiggles around in the drawer, its protected. I prefer this one

This thermometer is a huge improvement over my old basic tube thermometer. I like the fact that the structure keeps the bulb from resting on the bottom of the pan, and the liquid level is easier to read (doesn't fog up). The numbers and handy candy reference points printed on the metal are easy to read, and the tube doesn't seem to fog up. My complaints (and reasons for docking a star) are:1. The poor design of the clip. I had to bend outwards a little to clip onto my pots, but it still pulls halfway off of the back of the thermometer (since the thermometer is flat and the pot is curved). I have to be very careful when stirring around the thermometer in the pot, so I don't knock it off.2. The base can be hard to clean, since there are grooves and nooks and crannies around the base of the bulb. I recommend using very hot water and a scrub-brush, rather than a sponge (which will likely get chewed up) to make sure you get all the residue out of the corners.

I made sponge candy (or honeycomb candy,) for the first time and this thermometer made it SO easy. I made a single batch so the thermometer did not set deep enough. I tipped the pan a little after the bubbling began, so that the glass part of the thermometer was submerged a little. Extremely carefully, as candy makers know, these recipes would make third degree burns look wimpy. 'Very carefully' is easier with the well made clip on the back! Practice placing the clip before your mixture gets to molten lava temperatures. It reads rapid and accurate. This is not a bottom touching thermometer. And if it were, there would breakage risk.It cleaned easily and seems rather sturdy. Save the bubble wrap and box to store it, because this type of glass tube deserves delicate storage.This is just like the candy thermometer that I inherited from an aunt. I get the impression that this new one will last a long time, too.

Nice thermometer like you see the chefs use on food network. I bought it for deep frying and I was curious where the tip for the thermometer was - it’s suspended higher than the base so I didn’t have to worry about the tip touching the bottom of the pan and giving an inaccurate reading. There’s a clip to hold the thermometer on the side of the pan. My pan might be too thick because it doesn’t clip as snug as I’d like but it does clip to the pan.After I got the thermometer, I quickly tested it to make sure it works. I saw some other reviews that said theirs wasn’t accurate so I had to test it out myself. I put the thermometer in cold water in sauce pan and brought it to a boil. Thermometer did reach and maintain 212 degrees F so it was calibrated correctly.Note: Thermometer was damaged during shipping and the seller quickly sent a new one.

This thermometer replaced an older one of the same model whose markings had faded. Don't laugh, but I use it to bring water to the right temperature for a good pot of tea. The new thermometer is almost as difficult to read so will go into my Goodwill bag.

The clip supposed to hang onto the size of your pan broke off right away. I kept it in the pan somehow, only to realize it was not accurate either. It is essential to obtain correct readings when you get into candy making, and that thing won't help.Don't be fooled by the "professional" word. Don't buy this piece of junk, avoid a fit, burned hands, lousy candy and lots of sticky dishes.

The glass fogs up while cooking. I had to wipe it a couple of times to stay on top of temps. I’m pretty new to this candy thing, but I did 6 batches, and my 5th one burned. Don’t know if it was my placement of the thermometer or if it might have some inaccuracy.

I bought this thermometer since I broke my last glass candy thermometer, This new one exceeds my expectations. Great quality and easy to clean, Very easy to read. So far have use it for frying clams and also for shrimp. Will use it for making candy in the future. Very nice case to keep it in, shipping was very quick and item was as described Very nice person to deal with. Will deal with again is the need arises. Thank you.
