Now, THIS is a knife!
Beautiful blade, more of a short sword, something a Roman warrior might carry into battle. The grip fits my hand like shaking hands with an old friend. Don’t care that the scales are “staglon” plastic, they are still very good looking. Sharp right out of the box. Some reviewers hate the ballistic nylon sheath, but it is robust with rivets to prevent cut through, and to me, is acceptable and won’t tarnish the blade like leather.

More costly elsewhere.
BTI, under Taylor knives, is selling this 181UH knife for $42. I'd say this same knife from Amazon is a good deal. This knife at this price is a can't miss deal. My blade was in very good condition, and, razor sharp out of the box. I'm not crazy about the plastic faux stag handle, but, it works. The nylon sheath is okay. A nicer set of scales, and, sheath on this knife would've been really nice upgrades. Even a lower quality real stag handle, and, a decent leather sheath would've added about $20-$25 to the cost. Those upgrades on this knife for $45-48, would've been a nice package, worth the cost. Uncle Henry does have a knife like this with a nice stag handle, and, nice leather sheath in the mid $80 range if you're looking for a nice upscale model. The high carbon stainless steel metal on this blade is a nice touch, giving the blade the best features of each metal. Overall, for $23 bucks, this is a nice buy.

LACKS a FULL Handle Guard, AND Lacks the Historic Bowie SHAPE
I am giving this knife 5 stars overall because it is of INCREDIBLE VALUE.This blade came so sharp, that I was able to shave off hairs from the back of my hand. And the Schrade NAME means to me that the steel may have been properly tempered.BUT, I have a few complaints about the DESIGN:1) This knife LACKS a FULL handle guard.ALL the HISTORIC Bowie knives that I have seen photos of possess a FULL handle guard.2) This knife also LACKS the Historic Bowie SHAPE (which widens somewhat toward the point).Instead, this knife has a very straight blade/cheek reminiscent of a short sword.3) Finally, this knife design lacks a LANYARD HOLE.INTERESTINGLY, Schrade DOES produce ANOTHER, DIFFERENT: "Old Timer Bowie Knife" that possesses ALL of the desired features that are lacking in this particular: "Schrade Old Timer Bowie" knife. The DIFFERENT: "Schrade Old Timer Bowie" knife costs almost the SAME amount as this knife.BUT I do not see it on Amazon. It is available thru MidwayUSA and some other distributors.

Can't beat it
For the price, this is a great blade. Shaves out of the box. Fit and finish are spot on. The sheath sucks. But, for 16.00 you can get a leather sheath here on Amazon. Look for Szco brand. That's what I did and now it looks and feels like a proper bowie. Good weight and the handle feels nice in the hand. For the money, it's one heck of a knife.

Fits my large hands perfectly
This is a very cool knife, it's huge, the handle is amazingly large and fits my large hands well, usually I end up with a finger or two hanging off the end of the handle, not with this one.Often when I receive a blade this size I find imperfections or twisting/warping of the blade or uneven grinding/polishing, not this one, looks and feels like a master blade smith handled this one.Extremely sharp, again with such a large blade you tend to find imperfections in the bit (edge) of the knife, this one is perfect from one end to the other, I know the paper test with a blade isn't scientific but when you can cut a large sheet of 20 lb card stock paper down the middle and not have a snag anywhere along the blades edge, that's a good sharp blade indeed.Price, value and quality all in one and oh yeah, it's huge, learn to use it safely.

Great beater knife
I bought this cheap knife for the purpose of having something I wouldn't cry over if I broke it. I have some more pricy knifes like a ka- bar but after spending $100 on it I see I am afraid to damage it which is stupid because there made to take a beating. This big guy is for getting into the woods with. To be fair I haven't been in the woods yet this year to give it a review on its beating but I have tried it on a few branches like a hatchet and it did pretty well. The rest of the time it sits in its case (usually a big no no for storage because trapped moisture causes rust) so far it doesn't look like rust is forming so that great.Would I take this as my go to SHTF/INCH knife if I had say $100 to spend on a knife...no.Would I take this thing hunting and put to a local camp ground....YES.You get a lot of knife for the 20 some bucks you pay. Thanks to Chris Gilliam for reviewing this knife on youtube. I saw him use it and decided to buy it for a cheap no tears if broke knife.
