Fuzztones - 'Snake Oil' (Cleopatra) 2-CD
Have had this Fuzztones 2-CD compilation on my want-list for awhile now. Looks to have plenty of hard-to-find / rare material. Really liked the way that this title had a few interview cuts - definitely not over-doing it. Thoroughly soaked in [so to speak] "53rd & Third" from the Ramones Tribute disc, The Leaves' "Hey Joe", their awesome MC5 cover "Kick Out The Jams" (featuring The Cult's Ian Astbury), completely new to me "Salem Witch Trial", the 45 7" version of "My Brother The Man", the previously unreleased "It Ain't Necessarily So", ? And The Mysterians "96 Tears" and an ass-kicking live cover version of the Van Morrison smash hit "Gloria". Then there's disc two with their essential heartfelt tribute to The Seeds - Sky Saxon with "Bad Part Of Town", "Can't Stand This Love, Goodbye", "Beg Borrow & Steal", the Chesterfield King's "She Told Me Lies", "Hallucination Generation" [clever rhyme, no?] with James Lowe on vocals, "I've Got A Way With Girls", the well-delivered Music Machine cover "Talk Talk", "Just Like Me" and "Brand New Man". Duration - 2 hours. Comes housed in an easy-to-store two-fold thin digi-pack. Also available on 2-lp vinyl purple translucent. Couple of other Fuzztones titles to check out if you haven't yet done so - 'Leave Your Mind At Home', 'Lysergic Emanations' 2-CD reissue, 'In Heat' 2-CD reissue, 'Braindrops', 'Monster A Go Go' and way too many others to mention here. An absolute must-own.

Here you have 2 CD's crammed with Garage Rock Gems!
Interspersed before every song on this lovingly compiled recording, are incredible and hillarious interview segments with Rudi Pretrudi by an assortment of people, discussing his band who time forgot The Fuzztones. It makes for a great time, because the music tastefully keeps the rhythm moving. And then what classic rock songs are covered by these Rock n Roll Shamen, along with some incredible unissued Fuzztone gems. This thing starts with a BANG early on with a great versions of You Must be a Witch by The Weeds. But it's their incredible update of The Face of Time by the Plague (a great song which should have been a number 1 hit across the acid fried nation) that blows the roof off! If this sounds cool to you, then by all means pick this one up. It's a double disc set that has lived in my CD changer for a very long time, and that's really saying alot!

Judge it By What It Is, Not What It Is Not
For Fuzztones fans this is a no brainer. 2 CDs packed with radio interview snippets and rare tracks (studio and live), some from compilation discs and others from magazine giveaways. The songs, for the most part, are top notch, and at the very least interesting curios. The packaging is a gatefold digipack, the booklet is small and cheap with a small essay, but at least it has one. I base my rating on the contents, though, which for the Fuzztones fan are essential listening, the 2 CDs covering 30 years and quite a few lineups. Worthwhile, and essential. Garage or 2nd generation Nuggets fans need this in their collection.

Sympathique

album of the year...
Another gem from the kings of garage-grunge. A must-have for all Tones' fans of all ages. This is basically part two (22 years later) of Creatures that time forgot. Includes forgotten line-ups, songs, guest appearances, radio excerpts, interviews, you name it. Sound transfer from various sources also excellent. 5*

(Note : 3,5 sur 5)

schöne Zusammenstellung
zwar nicht essententiell für den Liebhaber des Fuzzes, aber gut zusammengestellt mit netten Radio - Metros in diversen Sprachen und z. T. sehr coolen Versionen bekannter Lieder. Nette Aufmachung.

At Their Best !!!
