Magnet feature is AWESOME. Color choices are AWESOME.
This attractive little kitchen timer is old-school, wind-up technology. Wind fully, then turn back to your desired setting. How I plan to use these is I got different colors - green I will use with vegetables; red with meats; etc. I can keep different timers for the different things I am cooking. And all of them OFF my countertop, stuck to my fridge, a few feet away from the range. The alarm is an old-school bell/clanky metal thing. Very different from any sounds on phones, so you won't mix it up with a spam text message or anything. You do need to RESPOND to the alarm, because you're not getting automatic 7 minute snoozes, like my phone does. But this is good practice anyway. That snooze is when you go from medium rare to a wasted piece of beef.If I had to give one criticism, it is that the smooth, curved surface is not a good grip for lifting the magnetized unit off its perch. I've had no real trouble with it, but with slippery hands, I could imagine it being dropped from time to time. But I'm really searching here for something to criticize. This is a wonderful, good-looking, useful kitchen tool. Buy it, buy a couple, enjoy.! Bon Appétit!

Pretty design
The magnet on the back is strong, so it is unlikely to fall off if bumped. The bell is a bit harsh sounding and will get your attention when it goes off. I love the retro design and color--I got the pretty green. When I tested it against another timer, it kept time as well as my digital one. A good buy.

Unreliable - Timer fails about one in three times
Unfortunately, the return policy on this supposed marvel of German engineering is only 30-days. There's no place on the Zassenhaus website to contact them to complain or request help for this little timer. I realize it's only twenty-two bucks. The instructions are very clear. Wind the thing up to the full hour and then back to the time you want to set. Even after doing that, about one in three times, the ticking stops and if your kitchen is dead silent (like any kitchen worth it's salt is ever quiet), you discover that it's just gone to sleep. Sometimes if you tap the thing in the middle it leaps to life (but only for a few minutes, when you've moved on to whatever's in the frying pan... and it stops again). If I could get in touch with the company, it would be a no-brainer. But, the combination of the defective product and no way to get help - I'd save my money if I were you. Sure it's pretty... but I still have to use my iPhone to bake my granola. And that app came free with the phone.Any Zassenhaus support people out there reading this? Why not contact me and make this right... I won't set the timer while I wait...

Looks nice, ticks loudly when set, magnet doesn't really work
Actually bought this for training our cat! She demand-meows for her dinner starting an hour an a half before dinner time every night. So I decided to incorporate a sound cue to hopefully let her know when it’s time. I hoped over time she would associate “sound = dinner” rather than “begging the human = dinner.” I decided to use a kitchen timer because anyone in the house (including a pet sitter) can easily set it without having to look through their phone to play a specific alarm sound.I wanted one that would look somewhat nice in the kitchen and specifically not have an annoyingly loud ring - the reviews for this mentioned it wasn’t too loud, so I went with this one. I just set it to go off around roughly the cat’s dinner time every night in the kitchen.Pros:• It makes a loud ring that’s loud enough to hear throughout both floors of the apartment (and will scare you if you’re standing near it when it goes off) but I wouldn’t say it’s like, ear-piercingly loud. Just a normal kitchen timer volume that sounds like a vintage phone bell ringing. I feel like reviews saying it’s too quiet might not be turning the dial all the way past 55 first before setting it as it instructs.• Timer is pretty accurate• Love the green color and it looks classy in the kitchenCons:• Forget the magnet use, it sticks to the front of our fridge, but it slides down the sides. And even if it does stick, the magnet is too weak to be able to turn the timer with one hand - the whole thing just spins so you have to hold it in place with your other hand anyway. Which is a shame for it being $25 and advertised as magnetic.• It ticks pretty audibly like a toaster oven the entire time it’s set. Which means I’d never set it for more than a few minutes or the ticking would drive me crazy. I’m also imagining the cat will get riled up over time as she realizes the ticking = food imminent, but we’ll see. It also makes a few small “dings” when you’re trying to set it.Overall, it looks nice and the timer is accurate, and the ring isn’t too loud. I just don’t think there’s anything about it that would make it worth $25, especially since the magnet feature doesn’t even really work.

Good timer until..
We wanted a hardy kitchen timer that the kids could use. This timer looked like it might meet our needs, and did for about a year. Until it got dropped. Some of the internal gears are plastic and the one that drives the hammer broke a tooth. Additionally the metal plates are too soft and the timer is too sensitive to minor bends where any one of the gears could slip out of place. This has been excellent, but it needs some better engineering. I recommend:1.Use a different alloy for the plates that won't distort so much2. Replaces some of the plastic gears with metal ones, especially the one with the hammer3. Make some of the shafts a little longer so they don't pop out so easily from the plates4. The hammer needs a small space between it and the front plate so it doesn't get stuck when rubbingBecause of the broken gear I cannot fix this. Where can I get these gears?

Stopped working after 5 months
I ordered this timer in April and by August it stopped working! Not good enough for a product I don't even use all that often...

1A Eieruhr
Also, zuerst mal: Bei uns heißen diese "Küchentimer" seit jeher "Eieruhr". Und so nenn ich das Ding auch. Eieruhr. - Also: Ich finde diese Eieruhr einfach klasse.
