A Glimpse of Life on the Gulf
I found and read Peter's "Walk Across America" several months ago and enjoyed it, so bought "Along the Edge" because I have thought about doing some traveling by boat along the coast. Peter's writing has a certain "basic" style; his books are honest and straightforward. The book details his purchase of a power boat and subsequent journey from Florida along the gulf coast. The chapters chronicle the people he meets along with a bit of insight about the geographic areas he encounters - a slice of life that most of us would never know first-hand. This book is light, upbeat reading. Readers will feel as if they are along for the ride, as in his first book. What an interesting life this writer leads, although I did tend to wonder how his new wife and kids dealt with his long hiatus off to wander and write despite their seemingly minimal visits. I enjoy his books because they are light, entertaining travelogues for those of us who like to wander uninhibited to new places and meet new people. Peter is a bit of a nomad who allows us to vicariously set off on new adventures and peek into our daydreams from a "being-there" perspective.

Not happy with the photos in book
This is the 4th book by Peter Jenkins I have read. I love his writings but was so unhappy with the photos in this book. There were many but they were grainy and faded looking. Some you could not even make out what they were. Now I don't know if this is just cheap printing on the part of the publisher or what. But I would like a refund. Thank you.

Along the Edge of America
I read this book several years ago and then after the Gulf Oil Spill, I knew I had to buy the book and read it again. The author spends several years in his boat "The Cooper" living along the gulf coast. In the book he befriends many local residents and talk richly about the aquatic life, manatees, and birds. He goes into detail about the different types of marsh grasses, mangrove swamps, etc. After reading this book you will have a much different view of what we are losing from this devastating oil spill... a way of life, actually.I highly recommend this book. I've read three or four of Peter Jenkins' other books, and you won't be disappointed on this one.

great book
Months after reading this book, I still cannot shake the memories of it. What a well written book. What an interesting topic. I am so thrilled with the love for the people and the cultures of the people that Peter Jenkins writes about. I did not know what to expect, but after reading this one I am planning to read every book he has written.

A bit empty
This book took me by surprise when I discovered that the author and his wife from Walk West Across America were no longer together. I guess it seemed to me that if they could make it through those thousands of miles together they could make it through most anything. This book was good, but didn't draw me in as much as the first book.
