If you have extra batteries, two lights are better than one.
Nice little light, though 3.5 stars would be more accurate(if we had that option).Price is pretty cheap, so I bought two. Glad I did, since they don't throw a ton of light, setting up one on each side of whatever project you are working on helps.I retired my old incandescent Makita light (the last of 5, or 6 expensive little 18v bulbs finally burnt out), and two of these make for about an even substitute.Less light, in exchange for a much much longer run time, and no fear of burning out the light bulb.Other negatives are that these lights are completely non-adjustable (for beam width, nor for angle that the light comes out). They also just sorta lay there flat, and are pretty impossible to point at anything, unless you set them up on something else.In complete darkness, setting one up a few feet away, to light up the general area, and having a second one, very close to what you're working on worked best for me.

Three and a half stars, I can't decide.
It does cast a good broad bright light under or inside a car.It is fairly big, and I have XL hands, but you can't just stuff it in your pants pocket. But it has to be that size because of the size of the 18 volt Makita battery. If you could only sit it on its end and shine it straight up it would be better. But for about $25 it does work with your Makita batteries.I bought a third battery when I bought my Makita drill and impact driver and it was definitely worth having an extra!

Could be brighter
I bought this thinking the LED would be brighter then my led maglight. Nope, even with the dozen or so individual lights it still doesn't even come close to mags 2 cell single led. I gave it four stars because it's still very useful, compact, and it lasts a VERY long time with the battery but they should have used better LEDs for a contractor grade tool like this. It's definatly worth the twenty bucks, just don't expect a super bright light.

A little klunky.
This light is functional but it is not as bright as I expected it to be and not having the ability to aim the light in a particular direction detracts from it's function. Overall, it is a decent product and if you're, say, walking in a dark room it is functional. Using it as a work light just isn't as good as the other Makita flashlight that you can set down and aim at your work.

Incomplete Design
Missed opportunity to take the concept a step further. The hand-held idea is cute and logical but of course people will wish to set the unit down and have it aim at a particular site. It would have been great to include some simple methods for propping the light on a surface, or to hook it onto a chair back or hang it from something and then be able to angle it at what ever you need to work on. I think it should be possible to offer that degree of control and still keep its compact size and weight.

Makita LXLM01W
The product works well. If you have this tool set you might as well buy this so you can do something with the batteries. I picked it up for about 15 bucks and it works good. Not going to replace the shop light, but its handy to have when needing mobile light.

not enough overall light
ive used makita products for about 12 years doing automotive audio and video installations... i have the 18v set for impact/ and driver drills with the larger flashlight which is awesome.. i tried this one because it is small enough to keep in my tool bag... overall it is a very directed light in a small beam, not impressed at all other than the fact that it will probably stay on for 24 hrs straight. i wouldnt recommend this, i would go with the fluorescent version or the larger 18v light.

Good basic light.
There are brighter LED lights available (reason for four stars) but for around $20 and always having a battery in hand.Works as expected.Convenient do to battery swap.
