10 minutes? They don't mean me.
I have just begun this book, and I suppose one can say that any such book is well written if it lead me to find a mistake in the first chapter, with just my simple working knowledge of HTML 4. The first lesson sets up an HTML5 template including 3 dots and a bracket for where the javascript will go. Next, they show the same template with javascript inserted. I could not get the page to work. Then I wondered, if the three dots and bracket were meant to take the place of the java, then why were they still on the template with the java inserted? I got rid of them and the page worked. Maybe that is just what happens in a Mac (running any browser). i will plunge on, grateful that the market has a book simple enough to teach me. In its 5th printing, I am glad I got it.

A First High-Level HTML5 Book to Get the Baisc Ideas!
HTML5 is still not completely defined and it does not have really have a complete requirements and design document that is solid and stable. At least this is not the case yet.If we keep the above in mind and do an honest review of this book, we come up with the following:- This book is just as good as other books in this series- However, this book has had the challenge of not have enough solid standards for HTML5 to work withIt clearly defines the canvas concept with emphasis on the drag and drop; Editing and others. It really does a good job of clearly helping understanding of messaging.I found this book as a good reading to develop my basic understanding of HTML5 that was good enough to help me with interview questions on the HTML5 subject. However, I hope that the authors publish future editions that are more specific as more precise specification becomes available.

Hmmm..... somehow miss leading
Well, teach yourself HTML 5 in 10 minutes....... If you know basic javascript, this would be the right title (...in 10 minutes). It all starts good until you dive right on creating your first html5. Not bad on that, just be sure you have some basic knowledge on Javascript. The Author does advise that HTML 5 is good, but the magic lays on the Javascript.I'm a web designer (not developer mind set) working on transiting to HTML5, but it looks like I should have picked up a Javascript for beginners first and that's what I'm going to do.If you are a web designer with a designer mind set, this is not a book for you. Never the less, I'm keeping this one for future reference.

What? No Tech Editor?!
Right of the bat the first examples the book walks you through are incorrect. Fortunately, I'm an experienced programmer and saw the syntax errors shortly after typing the code. It's painfully clear the publisher wanted to be quick to market and hustled the book out there without so much as having a technical editor run the code samples. This is par for the course with many publishers, sadly. What ticks me off is the Author is probably a decent person, but the book's gonna get panned and it's the Author's rep that will suffer, not SAMS -- who will still go on publishing cr@p...

Not very useful
Most concepts are not explained well, bare examples with no explanations. There is a lot of redundant text, and not the code, the sentences seemed "copy and pasted" in several section. I should have checked the other reviews before buying. Not useful for a beginner, nor an expert.
