Wish Upon a Gift (Lucky Stars #6)

My youngest daughter was a somewhat reluctant reader. When she asked to buy the first book of this series, I told her she couldn't take the bracelet out of the package until she finished reading the book. She liked it so well that she decided she wouldn't take out the bracelet until she read the whole series. She bought the next two with her own money and get the others for Christmas. I wish I could find more series that she liked as well.

My 8 year old loves this series and we made her wait until she finished to have the charm. It was a pretty good motivation method.

This book, and series, is a positive influence.It encourages empathy & compassion for others,and finding a way to help, sometimes anonymously.My granddaughter found it fascinating. She lovesthe charm bracelet, with each book adding another charm!

See also my review of the first book in this series. My daughter ran into this series before this last volume was published. It ended up being so successful we pre-ordered this one when it appeared on Amazon.The gimmick of adding a little "reward" for reading the book is really very useful for early readers, who may find chapter books quite daunting at first. I'd love to hear about other series that follow this approach: It made a significant -- and seemingly lasting -- difference in our child's eagerness to read on her own.
