For chefs or 'wannabe' great cooks, what is it that ensures their meals always turn out perfect and family and friends keep coming back for more? A "must have" kitchen aid for any serious cook is a Food Thermometer. No more guessing when the meat is cooked to perfection and ready to serve. The number 1 priority in any kitchen is to ensure that meat, poultry, seafood, and other cooked foods reach a SAFE MINIMUM INTERNAL TEMPERATURE. You can't tell whether meat is safely cooked by looking at it. Using a Food Thermometer allows testing of the internal food temperature to ensure food safety, whilst not over cooking. Simple to Use - Insert the FOOD SAFE, CE Certified stainless steel probe into the thickest part of the meat (do not touch the bone or fat) and press the ON/OFF button. Do the same for other foods - steaming milk for coffee or checking the warmth of a baby's bottle. - Wait a few seconds to get an accurate reading. - There is a choice of Farenheit or Celsius temperature reading. - Bonus of pressing the HOLD button which will memorise the last test you did. - If not turned off manually, the thermometer will automatically turn off after 10 minutes, saving battery life. DO NOT COOK WITH MEAT IN THE OVEN - plastic will melt. - Thermometer is supplied ready to use, with a 1.5V (LR44) battery.

Not instant read, not even close.
This thermometer does read the temperature but it takes way too long to do so (like 60 seconds or more), which I find unacceptable for a product that claims to be an instant read thermometer. I ended up buying the Alpha Griller's thermometer shortly after buying this one which Has been a great buy. I would reccomend looking at Alpha and Lavatools before making this purchase.

"Instant read, best digital," Two of those four words are true. It reads, and it is digital. Specs for most "instant read" thermometers usually say maybe 8 seconds to settle. This thing climbs slowly, and comes to equilibrium in half a minute or more. That's no different from my old-school needle thermometer. It's off by several degrees in ice water and boiling water as well. It's fairly easy to read and I like the long probe. Still, it's not what it says it is.

This thing seems to be accurate when placed in boiling water. But as far as "instant read" forget it. It is the slowest instant read thermometerthat I have ever used. I tried while baking some chicken in the oven and doing some steakson the grill, damn near burnt my hand while holding it to get a reading. It is pathetically slow !!!

It Works!
I had a very old meat thermometer that I've been using for years, but it finally quit working. I hesitated in purchasing a digital because you have to have a battery, but there's not much else available these days. It works well and does the job. We'll see how it goes as time goes on. We only use it a couple times a month so it should last.

Slow Read
Purchased due to "Instant Read" in the description. I tried to determine the temperature of a steak as it was frying. It was so slow developing the temperature reading that I feared burning the steak before getting the reading. Perhaps it is more suitable for roasts etc while baking in an oven. Haven't tried that.

NOT an "instant" read!
NOT an instant read; this thermometer took forever to get a temperature reading. I ended up buying a much better thermometer because this one was so disappointing. On a happier note, my new thermometer works great! (I got the Luxe Grill Digital Meat Thermometer)

Good oven themometer.
This thermometer works well but is a little slow responding. I like the digital display, its large enough to read at a reasonable distance. The controls are push buttons for off-on and temperature scale(C or F) and hold.

Works fine, however
Works fine, however, it is extremely slow to take the temperature of anything--anywhere from 2-5 minutes. Plus, the screen fogs over and it quits working all together whenever it is exposed to a slightly humid environment--like a steamy dish out of the oven.I would not buy this again, nor recommend it.
