The Hattie's Restaurant Cookbook: Classic Southern and Louisiana Recipes Hardcover – August 16, 2016

To be honest, this cookbook didn't turn out to be exactly what I thought it would be, but I am happy with the purchase. I was surfing around looking for an old cookbook my grandmother used years ago and found this. I'm always looking for authentic "old school" recipes and I thought this book would offer that. Truthfully, the recipes are more what I would call upscale takes on old classics, but that is not a bad thing. What makes the book unique is: One, it tells the history of the restaurant and the original owner (Hattie), and two, the VERY informative material and instructions for the ingredients and the method for each recipe. It's a small lesson in cooking technique and history for each dish. And there are definitely some recipes in it I intend to try. A nice addition to my cookbook library.

I love Hattie's, but I live several states away. What a great chance to bring Hattie's great food to my own home! This cookbook is full of great recipes and thorough instructions and is clearly written by an experienced chef with a down to earth approach to cooking. I've made several things from the book already and especially love the fried green tomatoes and grits. I bring the pimento cheese to parties all the time and people rave about it! And I live in the south, where pimento cheese options are abundant, so you know it's good.If you love southern food, this will be a great addition to your collection. Highly recommended!

Good story and fun recipes.

I'm a little disappointed with some of the recipes. I'm from Louisiana, and we don't stray too far from how thingsare prepared and cooked, which sometimes depends on the area of the state you live in. I don't know if this is MsHatties original recipes or the author's rendition of them. To give you an example, red beans should taste like redbeans and nothing else. If you stray too far, then we know you're not from Louisiana or you're just bad at trying toimitate Louisiana cuisine.

Great story with awesome recipes inside! Bought it as gift and it arrived with the binding smash in on the ends. No fault of the book, just the delivery!

Wonderfully written!! I love the history and the cooking notes! Can't wait to try these recipes! This is on my Christmas list!
