But I made one of the most amazing steaks I've eaten in my life.* USDA Prime Porterhouse steak.* I used salt and pepper. And then a generous sprinkling of the Umami powder.* Sous vide bath for a little over two hours at 131F.* Pan seared with butter and a Searzall on top to minimize grey banding.I've had some excellent expensive steaks in my life. This was arguably better than any steak I've ever had --non-Kobe/Wagyu, and probably up there with some of those ridiculously marbled steaks.The flavor that the Umami powder brings out of the steak is on the level of a dry aged steak.. dare I say better? I literally had 30 day dry aged steak (without the umami magic but pan seared with butter) along with the umami enhanced porterhouses and the steaks were almost on the same level. The porterhouse won out because the filet brought tears to my eyes.

My wife and I are meticulous in seeking out the best of ingredients (at an affordable price) for our cooking--high quality spices, vinegars, oils, miso, not to mention fruits, vegetables and meats, make a huge difference in the quality of life. Takii umami powder has joined an exclusive club of indispensable ingredients. A very small quantity adds a significant and very delicious dimension to stocks and sauces. Economical, tasty, and healthy, unless something untoward and unexpected crops up it will constitute a permanent part of our nutritional armamentarium. (Figure it'll also make great very welcome gifts.) If you're considering this, don't hesitate, buy some and try it out for size. I'd bet heftily you won't be sorry.

I got this umami powder on a whim not really knowing what I was ordering but once I got it I was HOOKED! This stuff tastes SOOOOOO delicious.. I've put it on steaks, salads, soups and it has single handedly made every single thing taste better! I can literally eat this stuff with a spoon but I try not to do that because it does have a little saltiness and I'm sure that can't be too healthy! haha.. Love the stuff and will definitely order again!

Interesting product.
Interesting product. It's basically mushroom powder with salt added. Well, not "basically" - that's exactly what it is. I've been using mushroom powder for a long time in spice rubs and so forth, which does add that "umami" vibe. But also tastes like mushrooms LOL So this one tastes like salty mushrooms, which doesn't sound very appetizing, except that it works. It works because mushrooms give things a smooth umami flavor, and salt improves the flavor of everything, so the two ingredients put together can do a lot of good. However, you could just get a thing of mushroom powder and salt your dishes to taste; there is nothing magical going on here.

I have been very pleased with this product
So far,I have been very pleased with this product. I have used it on scrambled eggs, baked salmon, seared ahi and New York strip steak. There is enough saltiness that I have not felt the need to add salt to the things I have used Takii Powder on. I sense a very light mushroom(?) taste - the flavor is extremely difficult to describe. I love this stuff and will absolutely reorder when I run out. My finicky husband has enjoyed everything I have seasoned with Takii -this is quite amazing to me. This could be one of those things you either love or hate, but I find it incredibly delicious.

Better than MSG!
Absolutely delicious! I like this product because I don't swell up on it like I do with MSG (I also like the flavor enhancement of MSG) but not so with this product and it's flavor enhancement powers are on par with MSG but food tastes better, at least to me, since I know I won't have swollen hands and feet! I add this to any tomato sauce, white sauce, soup, chili dishes, refried beans, stews and marinades. If I have to add it say, something like fried rice or fried noodles, I'll add it to the sauce first then cook with it. I didn't give it five-stars because of the cost - it's pretty pricey so I limit my consumption of this product.

Excellent umami flavor
Excellent umami flavor! I've beem adding this amazing powder to everything I've cooked so far: from pho to stews and casserole dishes. I noticed that I'm using considerably less salt when I use this powder, as I no longer rely on salt to bring out the flavors in the food! This is the second time I've bought it and a little goes a long way! It's already become a kitchen staple!

Great Natural Taste Enhancer
This mushroom-based powder makes soups, stews, casseroles, scrambled eggs, and anything I've used it on taste better. It's hard to think of a savory dish that couldn't use a little extra umami enhancement. Be sure to taste whatever powder you buy. This brand is perfect, but while it was out-of-stock I bought a different brand which was also good, but Much saltier. If you end up with a salty package, be sure to add it prior to adding the full amount of salt the recipe calls for. It can also be served as a "side" condiment at the table in a small dish with a small spoon. Enjoy!
