A healthy lifestyle includes a balanced diet consisting of a wide variety of foods, rich in whole grains, fruits, and vegetables. However, most people do not consume an optimal amount of all vitamins and minerals from diet alone. The National Health and Nutrition Evaluation Survey (NHANES) repeatedly demonstrates inadequate intakes of a number of nutrients including calcium, magnesium, vitamin B12, iron, vitamin D, and folic acid. Regional differences in dietary preferences along with variations in nutrient densities of foods owing to diverse growing conditions lead to further inadequacies in both vitamins and minerals. Selenium is but one example. The recommended Daily Value (DV), that replaces the previously used Recommended Dietary Allowances (RDAs), assures protection from frank deficiencies of nutrients that have been associated in the past with diseases such as scurvy and pellegra. Larger intakes provide protection against a number of degenerative diseases including cardiovascular disease, cancer and osteoporosis. Older individuals and those taking acid suppression products have reduced nutrient absorption. ENDUR-VM® is available in two formulations, one with iron and another without iron. Women have greater requirements for iron due to increased loss from menstruation. Men and post-menopausal women generally do not require iron supplementation. Close Window
