I was truly surprised how easy this was to set up and that it really works well. What a great device if you need to connect to a USB device more than 15 feet away.

Good usb to cat5 extender.
Installed with regular cat5 cable 75ft long and it works just fine.

Worked great for my use case (see details). Recommended
Right now I use one of the spare bedrooms for my creative work. It's a large space, which is nice, but I was kind of limited on how I could lay out the space. You see, the PCs and printers were located on one side of the room. Until recently, I had a really big Lian-Li computer case on the floor which was the perfect stand for my flatbed scanner. Once the PC was gone, there really wasn't a convenient place for the scanner. That, and I don't actually use it that much, either. The solution came in the form of the TRIPP LITE B203-101-PNP 1-Port USB 2.0 Over Cat5 Cat6 Extender Hub Transmitter and Receiver. I was already sharing the scanner with multiple PCs, by using a USB selector switch (you hook it to multiple PCs, and use a button to pick which PC can access the device). While it should have been ok, I wasn't 100% sure that the Tripp Lite would be compatible with my setup. To cut down on variables, I hooked up the transmitter to one of the PCs. I put the receiver on the scanner; there's a power brick that goes with the receiver, so that must be plugged in. Though it wasn't my final configuration, I plugged in a 20ft CAT5e cable and everything worked! From there, I moved the transmitter to the USB switch. Again, success! Now the hard part... I wired the house with Ethernet to where the cabling goes back to punchdown panels in a closet. Since I wanted to have the scanner across the room, I removed the Ethernet patch cables from the switch for each of the jacks I was going to use for the Tripp Lite. I then used a jumper to bridge the punchdown jacks. Electrically, it's really not that much different than a single cable, so it theoretically should work. The main rub is that you have to add the cable run lengths, and also account for the interconnect losses. Using a cable tester, it estimated the "cable" length at 115 feet. That's less than the 50m that this product claims as its limit. And the moment of truth? It worked! No problems at all.If I had any gripes at all, it would go back to the receiver's power supply. I have no issues with the fact that this device takes power... my only thing is that the power supply is 5V @ 2A. Seriously. If that's the power requirement, why not have a barrel connector to USB-A cable included? I have other devices in the area that can put out 5V 2A, so it would ne nice to have the option of not plugin in another power brick. Oh well - the important thing is that the product works. Recommended.

Use USB devices from far away
I am very impressed with this. I have a camera mounted above a desk to film work being done. The camera has to be lowered to access the memory card in it because even with a couple of extensions the USB cable would not reach from the PC to the Camera.Add this great device, and now it reaches. No bulky extension connectors. no fat and ugly USB wire. No horrible neon pink USB wire (this may not be an issue for you, but I happen to have a neon pink USB cable, and it is one of my longer ones)! Now I just run a CAT5 wire from the adaptor by my PC to the adaptor by my camera. I feared lots of driver and compatibility issues. There were none. A fast and easy install that solved a problem perfectly.

Husband wishes we'd had this years ago
Since my husband is an engineer, we tend to have a lot of uncommon or custom-made technology in our home (which I don't mind as long as it works). When I asked him if he could use one of these, he said he had the ideal application for it; specifically, to give him remote console control of our high-performance router over a dedicated network link since he can't do maintenance or updates to it over the network that it routes. He said that all he had to do was plug the transmitter into a USB port on the router and then a patch cable from it to our network patch panel. Once the receiver was plugged into the other end of the network cable, it behaved exactly as if there was an extremely long USB extension cable directly to the router. The RJ45 jack on both the transmitter and receiver has a green and yellow LED and it looks identical to an Ethernet jack. He wasn't able to find the description of the LED functions but the green one acts like a power light and the yellow one slowly pulses when waiting for the other end and switches to continuous rapid flashing when a link is established between them. The LEDs do not show USB data transfer activity. It's worked without losing the USB link for almost two weeks and my husband said we should have gotten it years ago. Highly recommend!

Worked as intended, extends USB signal
This is a easy to use USB extender that has a limited set of use cases.I used this to plug in a hub that let me drive the keyboard and mouse of the computer on the other side of the room. The instructions talk about using it for a printer that doesn't have network capabilities and while this is the truth; this adapter doesn't put USB on your network. So you cannot actually use USB devices via the network directly; it uses networking CABLES to extend USB over a long distance.Since my desk has an extra network cable that goes from one side to the other side; I was able to plug in this extra cable and use this adapter into a KVM switch that has my keyboard and mouse plugged into it. By doing that I was able to drive the computer on the other side without a problem. All in all this little device does what it says it is supposed to do. If you are in the market for something like this then this will fit the bill.If this review helped you at all; please mark it helpful! Thanks!
