Love this for hiking with my dog
I'm a person who does a great deal of Amazon shopping, and the reviews frequently help me make my choices. I seldom write reviews myself, but in this case I wanted to let others know what a wonderful product this is if you have a purpose similar to mine. First of all I use this leash when I take my dog for walks on a park trail where we may encounter bicycles, joggers or other hikers. For the most part he is off leash, but five or more times during our morning walks when a bicycle or jogger approaches, I call him to me and I quickly have him on a leash by simply unsnapping the LeashLocket and continuing our walk with my dog heeling on leash until the jogger or bicycle passes. Once we are alone again I retract the LeashLocket and snap it back into place on his collar and he can roam freely. My dog is 40 something pounds, on the medium-large side. I purchased the large size LeashLocket,. and attached it to a nice sturdy collar. I would recommend making sure you have a good sturdy collar because the magnet clip is necessary and it is a strong magnet. I'm not sure how this would work on a smaller dog, but it works perfectly on my dog with the collar I chose. The Leashlocket gets clipped to the collar, and the plastic part is held in place by a strong magnetic snap. When you want the dog to be off leash and roaming freely, the plastic part that contains the leash is snapped against the collar by the magnetic snap. When you want your dog to be on the leash, you simply unsnap the magnetic snap and hold the plastic part in your hand. When used as a leash, its like having your dog on a 6 foot flexi. It also comes with an additional hand strap that you can clip onto the plastic part if you're primarily using it as a leash and don't want to hold just the plastic part in your hand. As i said my dog is mostly running freely and i don't bother with the hand strap, but I think it was nice of them to include this feature. My dog is trained to come when I call him, and whenever I need to put him on leash. I simply unsnap the magnetic snap & extended the leash 3 feet or so and lock it in place. my dog then heels by my side until he is ready to be turned loose again. Our walks are pure pleasure with this system and he gets plenty of extra exercise running back-and-forth to my calls. This is a well made quality product and I like this leash so well that I have already purchased a second one just to have it as a spare backup in case I ever have problems down the road. I've used mine every day for over a month and it works beautifully. I highly recommend this leash if you are looking for an easy way for your dog to be off leash much of the time, with an easy way to have leash control when necessary. I would not recommend the leashlocket for taking your dog on walks where he would be on the leash for all or most of the walk.

Should be a standard for dog leashes
The biggest problem I have with most dog leashes is that they tie up the use of your hands. Waist leashes are a nice alternative, but include bungie cords which often get tangled up under my dogs legs. These can be used as a quick detachable and retractable waist leash for dog owners who like to walk/run their dogs off leash but need quick access to the leash. Want to unleash your dog and not have to worry about holding the leash? No problem- attach it to the provided magnet which you can put on the dogs collar and you're hands free. It doesn't weigh much and the dog will hardly notice it.I will say that these are not the strongest- it IS possible to break if you have a dog that pulls really hard, even using the appropriate size. If you have a dog that pulls a lot, you might need to do some additional training before you depend on these to not pull. If you have an occasional puller who doesn't use their full body weight you should be fine.

Bought in July, used every day, 2x a day, until I snapped it a little to hard (dog excitement😳) and it stopped reeling in completely - 6 months later. For as big of an oaf our dog is and as many pulls as he does, I'm incredibly impressed how well and long it lasted. The magnet is good to attach to his harness when in the car or hanging up at home. I enjoy keeping my hands in my pockets in the cold and not having to constantly detangle him from a regular leash.Warning! I did make the mistake of grabbing the leash to control before I could get it locked. 😑 Don't do that unless you want a good burn on your fingers.The one struggle I had was trying to shorten it & lock it at the same time. We're still working on "stay." But that's with any retractable leash. Already buying my replacement.Picture is not a good one at all of the leash, but look how happy he is to be using it! ❤️🐶

Fantastic product!
I originally bought the Leash Locket for my dog in a larger size to use on hiking trips, but I ended up returning it because the lead itself was very thing and it was not actually 6 feet long as advertised. However, I ended up buying this product again for my sister, and it has been perfect for her. She has a small dachshund who she takes everywhere, and she isn't the best about keeping a leash on him. This is great for her because he can wear the leash whenever they are hiking or running around somewhere or when she picks him up to carry him to the car (so she doesn't have to get tangled up in the leash). However, she mostly uses it by clipping the leash locket to her jeans. When she wants him leashed, she clips it to his collar and he is attached to her hip. She can shop and walk around without the hassle of holding the leash. The convenience of it being hands-free is a huge plus for her.Overall, I highly recommend this product for little dogs (or their owners) who like to have independence. The convenience of this leash cannot be beaten. For some, this leash can quite literally be called a life saver.

great product but...
I love this leash and will buy again but with the leash's retraction mechanism lasts about a year. The leads ability to hang from the dogs collar and then grab it when a leash is needed is invaluable. When a lead is needed, it retracts and expand to keeps it from wrapping around the wheels of my daughters power chair and hurting her service dog. I purchased 2 of these last March. The leash strength is fine. At about 8 months it doesn't retract all the way (about 8" stays unwound) and then by a year the retraction fails completely. I still gave it 3 stars because nothing else serves our purpose as well and will buy it again. Also when I had problems with the metal "snap: detaching from the elastic, they promptly sent a replacement.
