I loved the TV series "The Young Ones" which I didn't ...
How has it taken me so long to find Ben Elton? I loved the TV series "The Young Ones" which I didn't know was co-written by Elton. He has fantastic insight into human nature and contemporary culture. His wit is dry, sarcastic - down right damning - but laugh out loud funny! His view of the future is very plausible and so unquestionably scary. As with all the great current comedians his humor is in exposing the ludicrousness and hypocrisy of much human behavior. I bought the collection because it was only about $3 more to get 3 books rather than the 1 which had been recommended to me which was "Blind Faith." Once I had read Blind Faith I dove immediately into "Chart Throb" (a hilarious and brutal indictment of reality television) and then immediately on to "Grid Lock." I will read more of Elton's books soon.

Insightful and delightful, sometimes terrifying!
Ben Elton is a very funny writer, but most of his work is also very insightful social commentary. These are all of that.Gridlock is all about how cars are choking our lives, literally and figuratively. How the situation came about, who makes it continue, and why it probably won't stop soon.Chart throb is a wicked and vicious stab at reality TV.Blind Faith is a terrifying vision of the extrapolated phenomenon of social media. All of this is portrayed with the use of believable and complex characters, many of whom are frankly hilarious, often tragic, and definitely caricatures of people you probably know yourself.Anybody seeing his standup comedy may well be very surprised at how deep his literary skills are, while being generally very easy to approach.

Thoughtful satirical humor, brilliant fun!
Beware! These three novels are very thought-provoking. This just could be the future if the world continues down the path that eliminates privacy, and freedom, adores show biz stars and misguided religion. Brilliant, satirical and slightly crazy. .

Ben Elton's fantastic, this edition's infuriating
The books live up to Ben Elton's very high standards. But the publisher's lazily thrown together three files without spell-checking them.

Gridlock
Gridlock is one you can't put down and it is completely irritating when you are interrupted. My favourite Elton book!

Elton Unread
I haven't read any of these books yet but GRIDLOCK has been on my to read list for some years. It was recommened by a coworker who is smart and chic and ineffably French. I love the TV shows that Elton has co-written and his comic roles in many BritComs of his own or by the BritCom repetory actors and writers, so I think there is enough of a guarantee of a good read when the time comes and the urge to finally settle down and read it despite a growing bibliomane's collection roughly the size of a good professorial working library. It's up against a lot of stiff competition for my reading time but I have great faith it will come through a winner.

Ben Elton Collection
Purchased this after recommendation by a friend who said I would find very funny and indeed the initial reading has revealed the same. Only read part of the first book with 2 1/2 books still to go but am enjoying and finding very funny.
