Sonora Slocum was appointed Principal Flute of the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra in 2012 at the age of 22 and has performed with orchestras around the country including guest principal flute with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra. She has appeared with the Philadelphia Orchestra on flute and piccolo. Her collaborations as guest principal include touring and audio recordings with the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra as well as visual recordings with the Philharmonia Orchestra of New York at Lincoln Center. Slocum has worked under such renowned conductors as Charles Dutoit, Christoph Eschenbach, Rafael Fruhbeck de Burgos, Sir Simon Rattle, Edo de Waart, Otto-Werner Mueller, John Williams, and David Zinman, among many others. A recent review stated that "Slocum has a HUGE sound... and a wizard's bag resplendent with technical prowess and musical freshness." The conception of this debut album, Return, stemmed from Slocum's interest in astrology and reflected on this period of her life; her first Saturn Return. The tracks on this album represent both pivotal repertoire for flutists and some of the most technically demanding.

Sonora Slocum's debut CD “return” the Touch of a Master Flutist
I have seldom heard a debut album which is as stunning as flutist Sonora Slocum’s “return.” Ms. Slocum and her pianist John Wilson bring to life a series of pieces which represent at once done of the most difficult in the flute repertoire as well as the most iconic in brilliant fashion. The seldom heard Copeland is played with passion allowing Ms. Slocum to show off both a power and a tone I can only call remarkable. Ending the album with the Debussy brings one back to an understanding of why the flute is such an emotional instrument, and an outstanding finale in the hands of a true master-musician. Each track represents incredibly high standards, making this album a must-have for any classical music aficionado!

BEAUTIFUL ALBUM!
A must have album of 2019! The quality is priceless for such a low cost. Sonora is a young flute player with a massive talent! The pieces on the album are incredible. Both sweet and supple, but also ferocious and demanding. Every note is intelligently placed. The collaboration between the flute and piano is sublime. You really can't get any better of a collaboration. As a listener, I can tell that so much work, heart and soul went into this album.Again, this is a must have in your classical collection!
