The Great British Baking Show: The Big Book of Amazing Cakes Review: Lots of great recipes with easy-to-follow instructions - I'm hooked on the "The Great British baking show" and thought this would be a great cook book to add to my collection. What I like about this volume is that all the photographs are quite beautiful and include pictures of Welford Park, the Season 10 bakers, and of course the cakes themselves. The instructions are very thorough and use American measurements instead of metric. There is a chapter in the beginning of the book that cover the chemistry of baking, the various methods of baking, and how to store your finished cake. There is even a section devoted to frosting & piping decorative designs. Many of the easier recipes call for self-rising flour and for recipes that include fillings such as creme patisserie, jam, compote, & syrups, those recipes are included as well. A wide range of cake pans are also required - 6", 8" and 9" rounds, squares, loaf, 8" and 9" springform, muffin, bundt, 9" x 13" rectangular, and ring mold. Fortunately, I have all these types of pans in my kitchen but for bakers who are just starting out, they will find themselves limited in the recipes they can make. My daughter and I knocked out half a dozen of the "classic" cakes this past week and found the recipes easy to follow. The easier cakes are in the front of the book with the more complicated recipes found in the back. Especially appreciated was how each recipe was accompanied by a photograph to give us an idea of how the finished cake should look. Review: A great idea for somebody who loves to bake - I bought this for my mother in law as a gift and she loves it. Look, the recipes are easy to follow and I’m sure the results are great. One thing about MIL’s is that they think they know best, so she’ll take the recipe and add her own spin on it. The problem is, her spin is nasty. I’m sure that some of the stuff she makes should come with a biohazard. The Bake Off book has lots of ideas, it’s a good gift, and hopefully if you buy it, you make good food. I’m just a survivor of somebody’s bad baking!!

A great idea for somebody who loves to bake

Just as Good as They Look on TV
I love this show, and it's rare that you find a TV show recipe book that works for the everyday cook. This does! The recipes are accessible and, even more important, doable. I haven't made all the recipes yet, but I can tell that the chocolate beet cake is to die for.

This one works
The recipes in these books are sometimes hit and miss. This one is better for American audiences. The units are in the customary system and not the metric system. It makes a huge difference. The others make you weigh everything which is sometimes better for baking but annoying when you are not used to it and makes a lot of dirty bowls. Also it is really annoying when the other books down use large eggs.

I got a big Thank you for this at Christmas as a gift. I do like how it explains the ingredients well and makes some very good and pretty desserts. Fun book actually for the baker.
