Buy This Now!!!!!
This 4 album set is a steal at $13. Any sane Anita fan would grab it immediately before it's too late. You get Anita's 1st, 3rd and 5th Verve releases and also her final disc from Norman Granz's Norgran label just before they started the verve label together the next year.I must differ with some of the other reviewers who dismiss "The Lady is a Tramp". It has a very interesting history and is definitely worth a listen. Its 12 songs were recorded in 1952. 4 of them feature Roy Eldridge. 8 of these songs were released as "Anita O'Day Collates" in 1953. It was a 10" disc. In 1955 it was released with all 12 tunes and finally again in 1957 as Anita's 3rd Verve release finally titled "The Lady is a Tramp". In my opinion, some of it has sort of a "Kentonesque" feel. The track entitled "Lullaby of the Leaves" is a definite highlight. This disc can't match the other 3 but is has some great tracks and fills in a gap in a tough period of her career."An Evening with Anita O'Day" was recorded in 1954/1955 and released on Norgran in 1956. It has a great dreamy feel. This one might be my favorite."Anita" was recorded in late 1955 and released in 1956 as not only her first Verve release but the first Verve release period. This one might be my favorite. Finally, you get "Anita Sings the Most". Recorded and released in 1957. Anita is accompanied by the great Oscar Peterson. What can I possibly add to that? The last 3 all indispensable. This is a great set.The packaging is practical and arrived with no damage. The liner notes of the 4 original albums are included as are the original cover designs. The set is also digitally remastered.

Great sound quality.
Sound is five stars.Problem was getting the 1st disc out. The plastic knob holding the center of the disc in the cover is too big/tight. Almost broke disc getting it out. The 2nd disc came out easily.

My Favorite Female Jazz Singer
Anita O'Day has been my favorite female jazz singer for years; this is an awesome collection of 4 albums she released and the selection is fabulous! I can sit back and enjoy her voice, her command of style, and her rendition of some standards we are all familiar with, sung by many others as well as Anita. I highly advise you purchase this Gem!

Just great to listen to a true jazz singer, quite similar to my other fie ,fine female jazz singers,June Christy,Chris connor and Billie holiday. Diana krall is on the door step to greatness. I’ve been following her for 15 years or soAnd unique because of her great voice, plays a terrific piano if

Wow!!!!!!
I'd heard her name over the decades because i am a jazz enthusiast . When the documentary came out a couple , several years ago , i really wanted to see it . I finally did , thanks to my exclusive club called " " . I was not really knocked out by that docu . I was ignorant . No longer . Because i got this set , i am no longer as ignorant . That's a start . Man , (or woman) you've got to get your hands on this awesome gold . To my ear , it's instantly one of my favorite collections ever . If inclined , check it out . It's well into that place we know as "wonder" . Killin' and swingin' and so on . Apply your own adjectives . But do apply . Six enormous stars .

Anita the best
In my book Anita O'Day has always been one of the very best jazz singers. These 2 CD's contain 4 albums, all recorded in the 50'es, and there is no doubt that "Anita sings the most" with Oscar Peterson's Quartet is the best, and, for instance, "We'll be together again" and "Stella by starlight" are just beautiful versions. On "Anita O'Day - the lady is a tramp" she joins forces with her old jazz buddy from Gene Krupa's Big Band, Roy Eldridge, and even though "Vaya con Dios" cannot be termed as a jazz tune, her version is sweeter and with greater feeling than the famous hit with Les Paul/Mary Ford from 1953.On "An evening with Anita O'Day" and "Anita" she is primarily accompanied by small groups, and here is a "smorgaasbord" of beloved standards. All served with her dynamic and rhythmic talents and cool sexy voice.A must buy for Anita fans.

Anita O'Day _ 4 Classic Albums
One reviewer has already done a very detailed review of the content of this package to which little can be added. Her fans will know she served her apprenticeship singing with bands fronted by Gene Krupa (2yr & another 1yr), Stan Kenton (1 yr) and another short stint with Woody Herman. If you like her husky-voiced swinging style, or want an introduction to her singing, this collection is as good a place to start as any. Most of the tracks are up-tempo with a small jazz combo backing. Almost all of the tracks here are standards, so they're too numerous to list. Overall, 47 good tracks, well sung and arranged.

Saw a BBC 4 Documentary about Anita O'Day...
... and decided to buy this four CD compilation. Very quick delivery to France by the dealer the CD is a great way to step back in time to listen to this lady who survived the odds. She has a great voice that is very distinctive and much copied. Anita O'Day not only has a great voice but she was also a great character and if you do not know her story look her up and buy this CD, you will not regret it.

Breathtaking
As a lover of billie holiday, Diana krall, Jamie Cullen and Clair teal, this album was a surprise and delight. At a clair teal gig she mentioned Anita o'day so I bought this album. Thought it might gather dust but quite the opposite and this album has not stopped being played! Classic but yet quite contemporary in turn!

Even better than I thought it would be.
Bought this after watching a warts and all (first female singer to be imprisoned for possession of drugs) programme about Anita . To me, she is the epitome of a female jazz singer (machine gun lyrics included). A huge star in my collection and regularly played. If ya like jazz you'll like this.
