I normally purchase a cream, but this time a purchased a liquid, one shade lighter and in ash tone. My hair turned out great. It covered the grays, but did turn out darker than I was anticipating. Easy to use, good value for money.

First: color 6AA (Double-Ash) is the same as it's always been. I have been using this color for years. The formula does not appear to have changed. I lifted my hair to a level 6, with red-orange undertones expectedly showing up. My hair was very dark, but not chemically treated beforehand. However, Clairol's 6AA does NOT contain any green pigment. So it did not in fact neutralize the red present in the red-orange. This was to be expected. I will fix this with a green color depositing conditioner, or buy using a manic panic temporary green-yellow dye mixed with conditioner. So, how do you get around this? You lift your hair to a level 7, with mostly orange to yellow pigments (your hair will always lift reddish if you have dark brown hair, especially if you have any south or eastern asian heritage, so you shuld follow the rule of lifting above a level to dye. I didn't want to risk any damage.). Then you use this hair dye with a 10 vol. creme developer to come to a beautiful, true ash level 6 with a "gold" metallic reflect. If you are using this to tone red-orange tones present in a true level 6 lift, you must lift to a level 7 OR purchase redken's green level 6 toner instead. This toner contains 0 green pigment.
