it pulls like a top-line vacuum cleaner
- This is a POWERFUL fant!!! It surprised me the first time I fired it up.- I have to laugh at the complaints that it's "loud" - OF COURSE it's "loud", it's stronger than my *vacuum clean motor*. My Miele vacuum has a 100CFM capability - this is a 224CFM fan. So yeah, it pulls like a top-line vacuum cleaner, so it has a similar noise level. Although actually, it's *less* loud than my Miele vacuum cleaner. It's also pretty sturdy as far as I can tell. I was a little startled by the size of it when I took it out of the box - it is, most definitely, a full 120mm, might as well say 4.75", square, and 1.5" deep.- As shown in the photo, there is a sturdy braided protector over most of the wiring. It's designed to allow the wire to be bent around inside of a cabinet or case, yet protected in the area which is most likely to rub against other components. I will add additional covering, to the cords, since I actually got this to make myself a strong Fume'N'Dust Filter that I could fit on my lap desk, not using it inside of a computer.>>>EDITED ADDITION: I made a small case with a grid to hold the filter media ((dust filter material plus a charcoal filter)).I *finally* have a decent air filter for my wood- miniature and soldering work!- How I powered it:I got this, which is the Vols/AMps/Watts that the fan description specified it requires: http://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B002QQ4UIE?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00>>>EDITED ADDITION:The adapter got pretty hot pretty quickly. So I'm wondering whether it would be advisable to get a stronger adapter? To plug it into the adapter, I had one of these on-hand:http://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B001B9Y6W2?keywords=molex%204-pin%203-pin%20fan%20connector&qid=1444426115&ref_=sr_1_6&sr=8-6---- The fan's plug is 4-pin, but I don't know ow to attach "PWM" so all I did was plug in the small 3-pin male end; then I took the larger end, gently "squished" the positive/red-wire pin until it juuuust fit inside of the barrel plug, and slightly bent the negative/black-wire pin to contact the outside of the barrel plug. Then crossed my fingers, and plugged it it. And it actually worked!- At first, I though I was going to have to disassemble the fan plug and the adapter plug, but I only have to modify the Molex bit, whihc is the cheapest part, so I'm happy about that!- Well, now what I'll do is gently remove the pins from the housing, insert the positive "squished" end, remove the unneeded "hanging" end, and wrap with some electrical tape, then open-up the end of the negative so it wraps around the outside of the barrel plug, snipp off the pin, and tape that. Then more tape around the whole construct, and a cable tie to keep it snug.- I already have a "box" with a mesh for holding the filters and charcoal sheet etc. So it ought to work OK for this purpose.- And actually, as powerful as this fan is, I might find some new/additional uses for more of them, since I'm pretty handy t making things ;)

LOUD LOUD LOUD LOUD!! 100+ dB!!
It does NOT come with a Molex to PWM adapter, you can NOT plug this fan into your motherboard because it will fry the board.. Basically, you will get a box with this fan wrapped in paper, that's all.. If you are installing into a computer, you will need an item like this.http://www.amazon.com/Phobya-Adapter-4Pin-Molex-30cm/dp/B004X2XBMAI finally got the correct adapter for this fan and installed it.. A MAJOR issue came up... This fan is louder than a swamp cooler and IMPOSSIBLE to stand the noise in a computer, unless a person is deaf.

Too powerful for a standard PC
An incredible fan but you must be warned now: It is not for a regular desktop PC. If you plug this fan into your motherboard and the board runs it at full speed, you will have created a PC vacuum. It will roar like a jet plane. It's simply too powerful! I purchased a fan controller (Kingwin 5 Channel Multi-Fan Controller with Individual LED FPX-005 Black on Amazon) and it works fine. The Kingwin controller is rated at 8 watts, but this fan can output like 36 watts. It doesn't appear to be harming the controller, but it can't run full throttle, which is good. If it was on a 5v line, it would be fine but the 12v, which is the only option with 4-pin fan sensored connectors, is really too much. Great for a server though! Make sure you get a fan guard too! This fan could chop carrots at full speed! Not something you want to bump with your knuckles.Featured in the photos are my old aluminum Sanyo Denki. It's over 14 years old and still runs flawlessly. As you can see, the new plastic version has improvements to the blades and case in order to provide effective cooling. Excellent design and fabrication.

Insane power, insane noise, a great fan but make sure you know what you are buying first.
The media could not be loaded. This is one of the most powerful 120mm fans available. It is not for anyone who wants to maintain their sanity if you put this in your PC. Because it draws way too much power from a fan header, you have to use a specialized controller or you will fry your motherboard. I tested it out using an Aquacomputer Aquaero 5 that is part of my PC's water cooling system and the fan is beyond anything i had expected. I still haven't found a good application for it, but its still awesome. In the attached video, the fan starts at 1700 rpm and i increase the speed in 10% increments to max, then back down again. I had to put it on a non-skid piece of rubber/foam and put screwdrivers through the holes to keep it from flying off the desk. Looking back, it was really stupid to not put a guard on it because had i got a finger in there.... lets just say my new nickname would be stubby.

Fan of this Fan
Oh, my, my... This is my new favourite fan of all time. My application for this is in a swamp cooler. I just cracked it out to test and was blown away by the rabid anger of this baby. The wind is unlike anything I've ever felt from a dinky computer fan. Heck, this thing sends out a breeze better than some full size box fans I've had. And if you are another 12v user sick and tired of anemic fans they sell for truck cabs or rv's? This is the baby you want. The breeze is focussed, but very strong. I had it blowing curtains diagonally from 6 feet away. It doesn't just jump out of the gate. It breaks the bloody gate down and goes to warp. Seriously, the superlatives just have to flow. It's that satisfying.I tested this on a lil PWM speed controller. I snipped the computer rail jack off and just tied off the yellow and green wires, running the DC directly to the PWM. And it tunes ever so nicely, the airspeed going from a trickle to a jet. No stalls. A beast it is, but also yields to command. Some people complain this fan is too loud. And it is loud. But if you like white noise, I'd say this fan has a rather pleasant tone. Really, with a PWM set on medium or low, it will do very well to put you to sleep.
