gonna make it short : * Pressed at Record Industry (this is the 2nd album I bought that was pressed and it's in the same class of Palas). * it's 180g Double LP * it's not a gatefold cover (only thing bad in this purchase...but not a big deal). soundwise : compared to the Original CD that I own and it sounds a lot better !!! (the original CD sounds great as well) the Vinyl has better soundstage, better defined bass, the drums are cleaner and you can hear every little riff that Frusciante Plays. I don't know who did the mastering but the rumor says it's Bernie Grundman (?), anyway they did a very good Job...this is a true audiophile Vinyl. (I own some more expensive ones so I can compare) Cover : this is the only negative stuff I have to say about this purchase...I don't like the cover ! it's simple, cheap...I expected Gatefold cover, with some art or something...but they put all the money on the sound and pressing (I guess). so should you buy it ? YES !! I'm not a big fan of RHCP, but this album is great and they made a high quality Pressing here - Highly recommended !!

I bought this album for my son. He recently purchased a turntable and has been slowly collecting some of his favorite artists on vinyl. He's a huge RHCP fan. The album arrived when they said it would. I took it to my sons and we listened to both records front to back and it played nice and the sound quality is great. I saw another review that said the paper insert didn't have the artwork or lyrics on it, but ours did. Even if it hadn't, for the price and the quality, it's well worth it.

I knew I had to face this monster some day. First off, I have to put it out there, Rick Rubin is one hell of a producer. I've heard his productions from all spectrums( American Recordings , South of Heaven , Licensed to Ill ), but this album, I can truly call his masterpiece. Mother's Milk introduced me to four funky cats from LA. While production on Mother's Milk was good, Blood Sugar Sex Magik was totally something else altogether (Get the Funky Monks video and you will see why) Red Hot Chili Peppers: Funky Monks . Like all Red Hot Chili Pepper albums, Anthony was all libido (Suck My Kiss, Sir Psycho Sexy, Blood Sugar Sex Magik), but he still managed to kick out some socially conscious songs (The Power of Equality, The Righteous and The Wicked, Under the Bridge). This album also showed John Frusciante's evolution as a guitarist (all of his solos are amazing, My Lovely Man and Sir Psycho Sexy to name a few). Flea and Chad were also phenomenal. What the Power of Equality started was the coolest journey. Having become familiar with every song the only gripe I could say I have is that I felt that Sir Psycho Sexy should have been the final song instead of They're Red Hot, because John Frusciante's solo at the end of Sir Psycho Sexy made it seem like the closing credits of a movie, which made the whole album play like a movie than a collection of songs. No Chili Pepper album has come close to the beast that Blood Sugar Sex Magik is.

The Chili Peppers have been around for almost 29 years. The band is much older than me or any of my friends who know and listen to them. We grew up with the Chili Peppers as a famous band with great songs from the past twenty years that had become major hits. But back in early 1991, the Chilis were mostly just an alternative rock group that had a mix of funk, punk, and metal that didn't always come together perfectly with the reputation of performing only wearing one sock each. They were crazy party animals whose first guitarist died in 1988 from an overdose. They had four albums, only one of which made it on Billboard. Blood Sugar changed all that into what we know today. Two of their most successful songs ever, "Under the Bridge" and "Give it Away," came from this album. It was the right combination of music types that came out at the right time, when people were looking for new types of rock to go mainstream. There are plenty of great songs, especially those two singles. "Breaking the Girl" has a great little bridge with a bunch of percussion sounds, and there are plenty of great sounds and funky lyrics on songs like "If You Have to Ask," "Apache Rose Peacock," and "My Lovely Man." The chorus in "The Power of Equality" is in a minor chord or something and sounds a little sour, but it works. There are also some sexual references, such as the name of the song "Suck My Kiss" and, the eight and a half minute monster, "Sir Psycho Sexy." Unfortunately, the biggest flaw on this album is that several of these songs sound very similar. A friend of mine will often play songs from Blood Sugar in a playlist, and I know that the songs are by the Chili Peppers right away, but can't figure out what song it is without listening to the lyrics. I'd say there are five or six songs like that (which is why it's only four stars). Strangely enough, "Under the Bridge" and "Give it Away" are very different songs compared to each other, and aside from the five similar songs, the rest of the album follows suit in trying to expand the type of music that the band is coming up with. There are some softer, sweeter songs, like the sorrowful "Under the Bridge," one of the first times that frontman Anthony Kiedis really sings, or "I Could Have Lied." There are some more crazy songs, like "The Greeting Song" (whose lyrics I still mostly cannot understand to this day). This one album showcases the Chili Peppers' versatility and different musical styles, a great mix between the good ole days that many people aren't aware of and the success that came afterwards. This album is essential listening.

Blood Sugar Sex Magik è il quinto lavoro in studio, e primo con la nuova casa discografica e con Rick Rubin. Se Mother's Milk puntava sull'impatto della composizione punk miscelata ad un funk melodico e potente, con questo Blood Sugar Sex Magik il gruppo spazia dal funk piccante e pingue dell'iniziale The Power Of Equality, passando dagli armonizzi vocali e vagamente soul della bellissima If You Have To Ask, arrivando al rock culturista di Suck My Kiss, dove i Peppers tirano fuori i muscoli per definire un nuovo standard crossover. Nel mezzo c'e anche Breaking The Girl, ballata elettro-acustica con un testo dedicato da Kiedis al padre Blackie "colpevole" di aver trasmesso al figlio il gene del sesso da "una notte e via". Dal sesso all'amore perduto della delicata I Could Have Lied, dove la chitarra di Frusciante ha un ruolo da assoluta protagonista (soprattutto dell'assolo finale), passando al funk venato di pop dell'ambo Mellowship Slinky In B Major - The Righteous And The Wicked arrivando all'hard funk epidermico e travolgente di Give It Away dove il funk della chitarra viene sorretto da una sezione ritmica sugli scudi determinata dal rap veloce e scioglilingua di Kiedis. L'impatto sonoro giunge all'apice grazie al rock duro della title track; subito dopo arriva il brano simbolo del gruppo: Under The Bridge. La composizione, tuttora la più fortunata a livello commerciale, presenta una struttura semplicissima che, anche grazie ad un videoclip d'impatto, ha reso il gruppo popolarissimo in tutto il globo; Flea è l'assoluto protagonista della solare Naked In The Rain; Apache Rose Peakock viene invece sorretta da un impianto funk dove filtrano anche elementi rock melodici. Quando si può avere l'idea di un calo, a smentire l'ascoltatore arriva il rock lisergico e compatto di The Greeting Song, brano aperto da un riff dal refrain quasi metal, sorretto da un Chad Smith pulito e un Flea in stato di grazia dove Kiedis tira giù un testo dove per al prima volta il narcisismo del gruppo arriva a vette inaudite; al brano numero quindici i Peppers devono ancora affrontare il dolore dell'amico scomparso: la struggente My Lovely Man così come la precedente Knock Me Down è dedicata al chitarrista Hillel Slovak. Difficile non rimanere colpiti dagli otto minuti e mezzo di Sir Psycho Sexy, brano funk con evidenti inserti gospel nel ritornello, la quale lascia spazio anche ad un momento psichedelico quasi a formare una jam session dove il testo è quanto di più volgare si sia mai stato letto in una lirica del gruppo. A chiudere il cerchio arriva l'ennesima cover: They're Red Hot. Il brano originariamente di Robert Johnson viene stravolto dalla sua struttura blues per essere codificato in un funk-punk velocissimo, degna chiusura dell'album. I motivi del successo del disco sono molteplici e con diverse sfaccettature: sicuramente il fatto che il rock alternativo stesse diventando un genere popolare è stato di grande aiuto ai peperoncini. C'e da dire che questo BSSM è un capolavoro senza tempo dove la chitarra di Frusciante sa essere dolce e poi violenta, funk o rock, rock o punk, punk o psichedelica. La coesione dei quattro musicisti è impressionante, tutti sono al servizio dell'altro mettendo a disposizione il proprio background musicale adattandolo allo standard sonoro del gruppo. Naturale perciò vedere come oggi tanti gruppo etichettati "new metal" siano influenzati dalla combinazione rivoluzionaria tra rock, rap e funk, e di come il disco a molti anni dalla sua uscita sia ancora il punto di riferimento per chi vuole conoscere la musica dei Peppers. Dopo la pubblicazione del long plain il gruppo partirà per un lunghissimo tour mondiale, arrivando il 5 maggio del '92 a Tokyo dove in preda ad una crisi depressiva John Frusciante deciderà di lasciare la carovana

高校の頃から大好きなアルバムで、1曲目から17曲目までとにかく楽しめる名盤。 圧巻は勿論「GiveItAway」だが、アルバムタイトル曲「BloodSugarSexMagic」もいい。 「UnderTheBridge」の素朴な物悲しさも情緒があって素晴らしい。 是非、聴いてみていただきたいです。 購入して後悔は無い1枚です。
