Everyone who loves animals should read this.
I bought "For Bea" over a year ago, when we first adopted our beagle "Vinnie" from a research laboratory at MSU. He has the same ear tattoo as Bea had in the book. And he is as emotionally damaged as Bea was. I thought I could get some helpful hints from the book on how to rehab our little friend. I got even more. Love and patience will win over cruelty and abuse, but it will take time. Mrs. Von Kreisler has given me the determination and courage to stay the course with Vinnie, as he is still affected by his ordeal, and it has been over a year and a half since I redeemed him from his research prison. "For Bea" not only takes the reader through laughter and tears, but offers a chapter on what useless tests are conducted on these helpless creatures, educating us to be able to answer the people who always say, "Well, they HAVE TO do testing to help humans!" They don't, and this book helps to explain why. I bought two copies of this book initially, and am purchasing more copies to donate to libraries and give to friends. Mrs. Von Kreisler has done her homework, and we can all learn from it. Meanwhile, we will continue to give Vinnie all the love and reassurance he needs to overcome his tragic past.

Miracles Do Happen!
If anything this story conveyed to me how there is another option for abused and rejected animals like Bea. There is the option of giving life to them. The option to not turn away from a hurting animal, because even they seek companionship, stability, and YES, even LOVE. I don't believe Bea would've ever made it past the age of five years if she wasn't found one dark night. She was a 'lab' dog and obviously very much abused. She was traumatized, but the author and her husband took the dog under their wings and after years of emotional rehabilitation, Bea learned to trust again and to enjoy her life.It is a powerful thing to have the option of saving a life or letting a living thing die frightened, abused and alone. It is so easy to turn away and make excuses as to why you shouldn't reach out your hands to help them. But this book reminded me that we all have the power to give life just as much so as to ignore it. This book is just one precious example of a life saved. This book tells Bea's story.

A bitter sweet story about a little dog that was found on the road.
An enjoyable read! The story of Bea is a sweet one though Bea had to suffer for years in a lab where experiments had been done upon her. She came into the Kreisler family by some miracle but her life had been one of horror at the hands of chemist or other unknown scientist. Just thinking about why Bea was so traumatized made my heart break. The story of kindness and love that was poured out on Bea and her incredible "turnaround" just shows what the power of love can do.I am so happy that I read this book. It was enjoyable and Kristen is a wonderful writer. I love the way that the book ends. Of course, I knew that Bea would pass away and I braced for it, but the ending was so sweet. I loved the way the author handled its finish.

A MUST READ FOR EVERYONE!
A great read. Couldn't put it down. Very sad to learn about the life of lab animals. Many tears were shed in reading this book. But it was comforting to read that love triumphed with Bea. She was a survivor! Everyone should read this book to learn more about the animals used in labs all over the US. Together we can stop the abuse and foster change.

This story brought me such joy. I have rescued several beagles over 20 years
This story brought me such joy. I have rescued several beagles over 20 years; all were "throwaways" due to bad behavior. This story proves what I have said over and over--that beagles can be reprogrammed to be the loving angels they truly are deep inside. What a precious story. Sadly, I lost my lemon beagle of 13 years about a month after I read the book...she looked exactly like "Bea" on the cover :-) Highly recommend!

Precious story, precious dog
Kristen, the author, and John, her husband, find a little beagle running loose. The little dog is petrified with fear and unable even to eat..They find that she has a tattoo in her ear that signifies that she came from a lab. They keep her despite many difficulties with her. This is a wonderful book, not only about Bea, the beagle, but about the kindness and persistence of the author and her husband. HIGHLY recommended for those who love animals. The author also includes a section on animal labs at the end of the book.

... the first chapter of For Bea shows us how horrible the life of a laboratory dog is
Kristen Von Kreisler right from the first chapter of For Bea shows us how horrible the life of a laboratory dog is. She rescues Bea and realizes the horror she has been put through as a dog being tested on in a lab. She and her husband work with Bea to gain trust, love and get to understand what Beau went through. With time, much effort and patience Bea becomes a loving member of their family. It really shows that even though people may feel it is a hopeless case, that if you are willing to take the time and effort to work with animals like Bea you will not believe in the end how much can be acieved and how wonderful a family member she became. I hightly reommend this book to anyone who is an animal lover or anyone who would be inerested in reading how successful the working with Bea turned out.

FOR BEA
This is a wonderful heart-warming tale for all dog lovers - but especially those of us who love our Beagles! Bea comes to life and you find yourself rooting all the way for her. Some areas could have been shortened but generally a "feel good" read. I am sure there are lots of "Bea's" in this world but if we can help just one then at least that is one less dog that has to be subjected to the cruel and inhumane treatment of a laboratory
