Error order
I did not like they were not hard wired. I missed return date cause electrition could not get here any sooner. I ordered the correct smoke detectors today from Amazon. Please credit me the 10 i purchased today and advise how I can return the First Alert brand i previously purchased. Thank you. Sharon hegarty.

Easy installation and slim profile
2/21/18 Update - I purchased two of these detectors for bedrooms. The rest of our home has AC powered alarms. Twelve days past the return window, one detector started acting goofy and going off frequently for no reason. The alarm was in a bedroom, so it was obviously the worst possible spot for that issue. I had to take it down in the middle of the night just so my teenage daughter could get some sleep for school. I'll contact the manufacturer for assistance but if you're considering purchasing this alarm, heed the large number of low rating reviews that are based on the new number of unacceptable false alarms. I'm now regretting I didn't do so. Like most people, I tend to think "oh, that probably won't happen to me". Well, it did. Now I have to either order a new type of detector or try to get the faulty one replaced through the manufacturer's warranty. Being forced to replace an item purchased only 42 days ago is very annoying. I'll probably just toss it and buy a Kidde. I have a sealed 10-year battery model Kidde in my bedroom similar to this First Alert and the Kidde has been rock-solid for well over a year with zero false alarms.Original review followsI purchased two of these for rooms without AC wired detectors. Both installed very easily and functioned fine when tested. The slim profile helps keep them from sticking out or distracting from the appearance of the room. The alarm is loud but not as loud as our wired detectors or even some other battery operated detectors I've tried. It has a test button but no hush button. It is definitely loud enough to wake and alert if activated. I like the sealed 10-year battery and the fact that it doesn't require frequent changing like battery operated detectors. However, I make sure to test it frequently and not take for granted it will automatically last ten years.

First Alert SM210L 'Path light" is very dim, but better than nothing, and only $31.
Recommended, despite having annoying design drawbacks.Annoyance 1:The "activate" button is labeled confusingly because they don't think you're smart enough to activate it yourself, so they didn't bother labeling how to do that. It self activates when you twist the alarm onto the holder, little tabs cams the button into position. You can activate it for testing first by pushing the slider one detent towards "deactivate." SMH.Annoyance 2: This smoke detector is slightly larger than our previous first alert, but it could still fit the wall bracket, right? NOPE!.Annoyance 3: But the holes for the new bracket line up so I don't need to drill new one in the wall, right? NOPE!Annoyance 4: But the path light makes it all worthwhile, right? (Sort of.....).The path light is a weak single white led, reminiscent of early LED keychain lights. However, if you were to awaken in a completely dark room, your eyes would be adjusted for that and even this pathetically dim "path light" could be helpful. So, while I may not "forgive" all the other annoyances, I still think it's a good choice. So, for $31 I would recommend it (and I might buy more). Just know that companies who specialize in products can still manage to be thoughtless to the point of seeming incompetent, rather than designing user friendly products.****I think the actual "deactivate" feature is stupid and unnecessary. Apparently in ten years (if it lasts that long LOL) you have to break a tab to slide to deactive before disposal (why?) and then it's dead forever, so if you do that by accident, oh well. If I wanted to deactivate it I could just hit it with a hammer, crush it in a vise, or drop it in a bucket of water.
