.com For all Peter Tosh's great vocal texture and wonderful songwriting, he's always seemed best in a live setting. This collection of 13 well-regarded songs--as well as a live acoustic version of "Get Up, Stand Up" and one unreleased track--only shows more firmly how great Tosh was as a songwriter and singer, but it also shows why he was often at his best live. When caught in concert, Tosh reached feverish jubilance and intensity, as Captured Live attests. But these studio tracks divulge a split, sometimes overproduced, personality: half-brilliant and half-envious (or incredulous) that he hadn't reached the commercial peak of his former Wailer-mate Bob Marley. There are standout reggae champ tunes, the original "Get Up, Stand Up" and "Downpressor Man" among them, and then there are lots of middling works that beg the question of why Burning Spear or Lee "Scratch" Perry haven't reached the spotlight the way Tosh did. If you're a Tosh fan, this is a great single-CD set of works that count as catalog staples. --Andrew Bartlett

If you like the "political" side of regga music
If you like the "political" side of regga music, this will rate high on your chart. Not every will like his honesty. He renounces persecution; he warns Black throughout the "Black Diaspora" that Blacks are not facing racism based on religion, geography or complexion (light skinned or dark). Songs like "African," "Down Pressor Man," and "Fools Die.," point the way to liberation for all Black people with Ethiopia as their spiritual "Mother," and the Bible as their guide-book.

Nice album and more
As a long time happy amazon customer it was natural to try their instant music and video products. I have been impressed with both. This album is nice, has some great tunes, '400 years' is the reason I got it, but the rest are nice as well. The amazon cloud player is super versatile.

Enjoyed this Cd! This is the kind of classic roots reggae that I love! Peter Tosh is a reggae prophet for real. His lyrics are very deep and thought provoking! I played this as soon as it arrived in the mail, and it was GREAT from start to finish! If you are a true reggae fan or Peter Tosh fan get this asap! It was a wonderful purchase for me!

NOT a load of ol Tosh.......
Scrolls of the Prophet: Best of Peter ToshI doubt that there is any “Best of” album which would totally satisfy all listeners as to whether their favourite tracks are covered but this is a pretty good introduction to Reggae a la Peter Tosh. ( His other seminal album would probably be “ Legalise it”). This covers his albums from 1976-8 and at 15 tracks ca 72 minutes is a generous introduction to his political style of reggae. For those who want more here are several further albums to try ( Legalise it , Bush Doctor , Equal rights and several others).Yes it is 70’s music – and none the worse for that.

Peter Tosh Lives on
I liked everything about this CD from the legendary Peter Tosh. High quality musical arrangements; powerful lyrics and powerful vocals that are still highly relevant in 2020 over three decades after this artist died.
