The Heinle Picture Dictionary (Monolingual English Edition)

It is very good book, I bought it to teach the women that I love how to speak English, she loves it and found it very useful.Like what they say"Picture worth thousand words". Many English as second language speakers found it useful. One day at the adult English school the teacher brought that book and she said that it cost about 35$ at stores, the students loves it and I was able to find it for a lot less on amazon.The pictures are very vivid and beautiful, it looks like real... it gives you the feeling that you can touch the items in the picture if you extend you hands and arm to them.

I hear that this book is no longer in print, which is a real shame, as it is one of the best picture dictionaries for adults out there. I think they should continue to produce it. ALL my adult language learners have LOVED it and I see them use it in class and talk about using it out of class. The illustrations are just, accurate, and also made for adults instead of kids so for those still in Level's 1 or beginning English levels it just can't be beat.

My mid-level ESL students love this dictionary. I like it to help me identify the colors...taupe, beige, ivory, teal, mauve, etc., food, and so on. You can't describe, sketch, or point to everything. The photos are wonderful.

This book has been a great help to my ESL students. It presents pictures and words from many areas that my students need to learn. Its colorful pictures are nicely drawn and thus are pleasant to work with. It sometimes offers more than the basics--for example the category "colors"-- contains not just "green," but various names for the shades of green (teal, lime green, olive green).

This book is well organized & the pictures are of high quality. It's helping my husband (post stroke) to better communicate.

I Highly recommend this book. It is great for low, mid and high beginners. I used it for regular classes and ESL civics. I bought several used picture dictionaries for my students. All the books arrived in a week and in excellent condition!!! They look as if they were new!!! for 1/3 of the price!!! Excellent product and service from several sellers!!

Este diccionario es una pasada, pero es en inglés americano, así es que mucho ojo para aquellos que queráis usarlo en clase. Aunque la gente dice que todo es inglés, la realidad es que para quienes preparan niveles bajos de inglés, éste diccionario no es aconsejable. Mejor tirar de material de inglés británico. No tiene CDs, ni trae los Workbook, que creo fundamentales a la hora de trabajar el vocabulario. Sin embargo, el formato, encuadernación, etc... me parece estupenda. Yo lo uso sin parar. A mis alumnos les encanta.

オックスフォードと迷いましたが、内容がおかしなところがあるとゆうレビューをみて、こちらを購入しました。学校で習う意味のない学習用単語なんか知ってても日常会話には必要ないものも多いですが、この辞書に載ってあるものは、知っていると会話に幅がでるものばかり。単語だけでなく、動詞との組み合わせや、各ページをいかした問いが載っています。例えばフルーツとナッツのページなら「あなたの好きな5つのフルーツは何?」とか「フルーツジュースのレシピを作りなさい」とか(英語表記です) 書かれてあってただページを眺めて終わりでなくて一歩進んだ活用ができます。絵は少し不気味なものもありますが、私は個人的に面白く感じます。英会話のボキャブラリーを増やすならこれ!!受験用の単語勉強には向きません。

実際に日常で使われている単語がなかなか増えない私にとって、絵でイメージでき、テーマごとに書かれているこの辞書は結構使えます。英語圏の子供なら知っている単語さえ出てこない歯がゆさ。知らなくても会話に困ることは無いかもしれませんが、英語を上達させようと思っている方には必要な本だと思います。普通のPicture Dictionaryよりも幼稚過ぎず、大人が十分使えるものです。他にもPicture Dictionaryを持っていますが、これが一番使えます。単語を増やしたい方にはお勧めの１冊です。
