Family Affair: Greed, Treachery, and Betrayal in the Chicago Mafia

Burnstein Hits Another Home Run
After the excellent job Scott Burnstein did with Motor City Mafia I knew this was going to be a winner. I was right! Scott did multiple interviews with agents to get the real deal on what was happening with the Family Secrets trial and other recent cases involving the Chicago Outfit. His narrative is a real easy read and he explained things well. As an attorney Scott covered all the bases with a fine tooth comb. For those who are interested, all the names and their stories are told here. "Joe Batters" Accardo, Joe Lombardo, Angelo LaPietra, Tony Spilotro, Nick and Frank Calabrese and more have their stories. But he doesn't just cover the bad guys, he also gives us a little info on the heroes, the FBI agents who develop cases so the criminals can be taken off the streets. So for those who are into what's been going on in the Outfit over the past 30 years, this book is for you.

Family Affair
This is a very good story of the Chicago Outfit. I've read every book about the Outfit before reading this one and Mr. Giancana is spot on relative to the accuracy of events. I have enjoyed reading it.

It was a good read, a lot of good information
It was a good read, a lot of good information, but some of it contradicted other books. Considering who the author is, I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt.

Giancana does it again!!
A great book period!! I purchased this title along with the, "Family Secrets" book and let me tell you that I was knocked out by the one, two punch they delivered!! With all the books written about the NYC Mafia familys, etcetra, it was very refreshing to find these two jewels about the legendary CHICAGO OUTFIT.A native Chicagoan myself, on top of being a Outfit buff, I loved every page and basically went through both of them in two weeks. Great read, it's strange but these two compliment each other very well, it would be a good idea to pick up both!Alot of information in which once you get started you will not want to stop until the end.

Following on from the The Enforcer ...
If you read William Roemers book The Enforcer then this book is the natural sequel ! This book takes over from were The Enforcer left off , right after the June 14 1986 hit on Tony Spilotro and his brother. While Joe Ferriola thought they were getting rid of a problem in eliminating Tony Spilotro they unwittingly set about a chain of events that led to the downfall of The Outfit heirarchy almost 2 decades later ! It seems Tony Spilotro was a pain on the Chicago mob many years after his demise and this book pieces together how things unravelled culminating in the famous Family Secrets trial . In the summer of 2007 a lot of the Chicago mobs dirty secrets were publically aired in a famous trial and this book goes behind the long investigation and the key Outfit turncoats who became "rats", as the mob likes to call them, and how these players made the trial a success. Joe Lombardo was one real baddy given the people who later turned against him, its funny how what goes around comes around because back in the 70`s and 80`s he had been a key supporter of Tony Spilotro (along with Aiuppa) then approved the hit on Tony only for this to haunt him down the line .........this is a captivating tale of mob hits, botched hits,Outfit leaders, the Chop shop wars and how truly violent the Outfit was !
